Amazon MGM Studios' The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the prequel to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy that takes place in the mythological world of Middle-earth. It delves into events from the Second Age, long before Frodo's adventures started.

One of the most important happenings in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the making of the Rings of Power. Not only this but also the devastating collapse of the island realm of Númenor and the formation of Mordor, the notorious fortress of darkness.

The series introduces the highly skilled Elven craftsmen who craft the rings in a place called Eregion. However, there's one huge problem —Sauron, the Dark Lord, has been secretly working to influence everything.

Initially, it's hard to predict who might be this dark lord, but The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power eventually reveals that Halbrand, an important figure, is none other than Sauron in disguise.

Played by Charlie Vickers, Halbrand is introduced as a seemingly ordinary human with a troubled past. He starts forming a bond with Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), and she eventually becomes his closest ally in the series.

Interestingly, Halbrand was created by MGM Studios, especially for the TV series. Longtime fans of the J.R.R. Tolkien book series would understand that he's not a character mentioned in the author's work.

Halbrand is first seen during his encounter with Galadriel when she's stranded at sea after a sea monster attacks their ship. Just when the Elven warrior is about to drown, Halbrand saves her and creates an early bond of trust.

The two reach Númenor, where Halbrand gets into a fight and ends up in prison. While he's locked up, Galadriel visits him and says that the symbol he carries actually belongs to the Kings of the Southlands.

Halbrand brushes off Galadriel's concern and says he found it on a dead man and doesn’t want to claim the throne. This way, he didn't let her dig deeper about his past or pose questions about his identity.

As The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power begins, Halbrand pretends to be a refugee who lost his homeland due to an Orc invasion. He appears to be the rightful but reluctant king of the Southlands.

However, cracks soon begin to show in his story. Galadriel starts suspecting something odd with Halbrand. His stories feel inconsistent, but he is clever enough to win her trust and receive help until the very end.

As seen in Season 1, Halbrand uses a fabricated identity to move undetected. With his well-crafted plan, Sauron twisted the truth and made people believe he was just a struggling but honorable man.

While talking to Galadriel, Halbrand asserts that his people now have no king and home. He expresses pain and accuses the Orcs of their hardships. But actually, this is only a portion of his evil scheme to extend his power and darkness throughout Middle-earth.

When the Southlands are all destroyed, Halbrand is left badly injured and is taken to Eregion, where the Elves try to heal him. Later, he meets a skilled Elven smith who cleverly influences him to craft powerful rings for the Elves.

By this time in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Galadriel starts piecing things together and confronts Halbrand with proof. She says the King had died long before and knows he's hiding something big.

At this moment, Halbrand drops the act and reveals that he is actually Sauron. He even suggests that Galadriel join him and later rule the Middle-earth with him. However, the Elven warrior refuses. With Sauron's true intentions revealed, he abandons his disguise and escapes to Mordor.
