Netflix's popular show 'Squid Game' Season 2 has had remarkable success globally. In the debut week itself, the series got 68 million views and ranked number one in several countries.
The survival drama features Seon Gi-hun (Player 456), who has come back after winning the original game four years later to dismantle the deadly game. This season introduces several new characters with different backgrounds, and one such is Gyeong-su (Player 256), played by Kang Sung-wook.
Gyeong-su quickly captured the attention of the viewers with his funky attitude and passion for hip-hop. Despite his love for music, he faced some tough circumstances (huge debt) that led him to join the deadly game to win the prize money. A superfan of Thanos (Choi Su-bong), Gyeong-su's journey in the show is marked by humor and tragedy.
Let's have a look at the details of Gyeong-su (Player 256).
Meet Gyeong-Su, a super fan of Thanos: Squid Games Season 2
Gyeong-Su, or player 256 (Kang Sung-wook), was featured as a hip-hop lover who was financially struggling due to debts and wanted to win the prize amount. Most importantly, what the viewers can decode from the series is Gyeong-su's love for Thanos and his music. His admiration was highlighted in Squid Game Season 2 Episode 4 titled 'Six Legs' when he mentioned Thanos to Se-mi, stating, 'Do you know who he is? He's Thanos the rapper. I'm going to kill half of humanity with my raps!"
Even though not much is known about his character, viewers come to know that Gyeong-Su is a die-hard fan of Thanos. He often mentioned Thanos throughout the game, which made it clear that he was a dedicated fan. He admired Thanos so much that he even attended all his concerts.
How did Gyeong-su die in Squid Game season 2?
Gyeong-su's journey in the Squid Game Season 2 took an unexpected turn. After successfully surviving the first game, Gyeong-su teamed up with Thanos and other players for the next challenge called Six-Legged Pentathlon. The game featured a narrow door where only a fixed number of players could pass through.
During the second round of Mingle, Thanos under the influence of drugs becomes agitated and kicks Gyeong-su from the group as they needed only four players to make it through the door. Thanos was left behind and unable to secure the other three players; he was shot by a guard. His death was quite emotional.
Thanos, when he came back to his senses, expressed regret for his actions. The scene is quite heartbreaking as we see Thanos cry his heart out, adding to the sense of loss and betrayal.
Even though Gyeong-su's role was relatively shorter than others, his story had a major impact on the viewers. His love for hip-hop and fanboy admiration for Thanos made him a memorable character.
