1992 is the latest Spanish-language thriller on Netflix. At the center of 1992 is a mysterious character by the name of the Flamethrower Killer. His original identity is that of Victor, a reserved middle-aged man. His name is an extension of his method of operation, in which he burns his victims to death with a flamethrower.

Most of the intended victims of the Flamethrower Killer are the committee members of the 1992 expo in Seville. Although it might seem unrelated at first, the Flamethrower Killer's connection to the expo committee members runs deep.

1992 cleverly conceals the true identity of the Flamethrower Killer till the very last minute of its duration. Eventually it's revealed that the killer is a middle-aged man named Victor, who is a withdrawn and obscure individual. He has severe burn scars all over his body that are reminiscent of a past accident and trauma. Innocent bystanders are occasionally also sacrificed by the Flamethrower Killer when he uses a flamethrower to destroy his victims.

The killer is in the habit of planning out his killings in detail, so much so that it might appear that he is operating from a sense of vengeance.

Here's everything that we know about the identity of the Flamethrower Killer from 1992.

Flamethrower Killer's identity from 1992 explored in detail

Victor, or the Flamethrower Killer as he is commonly known, does not go around merely killing anyone and everyone that crosses his path like a maniac. Victor has his sights firmly set upon the committee members of the 1992 expo in Seville. During the act of committing the murders, Victor puts on the expo's Curro mascot head as a chilling symbol of his rage.

The show eventually provides the backstory of Victor, making it clear why he is going on with his flamethrowing killing rampage. The Netflix show uses a flashback to state that during the 1992 expo at Seville, Victor's mother was a sex worker who was invited to the party along with two other women. One of the members of the committee, called Esteban, who later went on to become a minister, was responsible for accidentally killing Victor's mother that night.

Victor was unaware of his mother's murder and learned about it only after discovering her body in one of the expo's pavilions. His mother's body was consumed by flames after the committee members bribed a security guard to set it on fire in order to destroy the evidence. In a bid to save his mother's body, Victor ended up severely burning himself.

He was eventually rescued by a cleaner called Rose who became his guardian and provided for him. Despite surviving and healing in due course of time, Victor had the burn scars all over his body. The damage to his nerves that he suffered during the fire made him immune to pain from fire. This is repudiated several times when Victor holds his hand over a naked flame throughout the show.

Victor did not set out on his path of vengeance to avenge his mother's murder, as unusual as that may appear. He was first approached by Fernando Victoria, who was himself a member of the expo committee and present on the night of Victor's mother's murder.

However, he removed himself from all the proceedings on the expo committee and manipulated Victor by pointing him out in the direction of revenge. He ultimately saved himself from bankruptcy by manipulating Victor.
