Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman plays the role of the US Secretary of State Edwin Mullins in Special Ops: Lioness. Mullins heads the CIA and wants to know what's going on with the Lioness program and its agents.
Edward Mullins' Lioness first appears in the sixth episode titled The Lie is the Truth when Joe visits the White House with her bosses, Kaitlyn Meade and Byron Westfield.
Who is Edwin Mullins in Special Ops: Lioness?
In Special Ops: Lioness, US Secretary of State Edwin Mullins, played by Morgan Freeman, appears when Joe and her leaders, Kaitlyn Meade and Byron Westfield, receive a call to the White House.
Joe's unofficial Lioness QRF team is doing some side work in Texas. For the first time, they assist CIA agent Kyle, who has been kidnapped in Texas along with one of his assets. This draws the attention of the mission due to the casualties.
The team now attempts to apprehend six major terrorist targets found in San Antonio, Texas. Everything takes a turn when one of the terrorists activates the suicide vest. The vest proves too dangerous to remove, forcing Joe to abort the mission. The CIA later detonates the device once it is safe enough to destroy the evidence.
For Edwin Mullins, the unsanctioned operations have crossed his threshold, as he wants Joe and the crew to be punished, but Byron Westfield lets him know that their operations were justified, as it was the salvation of thousands, and thus the punishment of the crew lies in that.
Edwin assumes that the operation was given to Asmar Ali Amrohi's crew, who not only would sponsor terrorism in the Middle East but also had close ties to international terrorists of the highest caliber. So Freeman's character is likely to be seen in many more episodes.
What is happening in Special Ops: Lioness Season 2?
In season two, the fight against terror becomes even more personal for Joe and the Lioness team when they team up with a new operative to take down a new threat. From all sides, Joe has to face the bitter reality of what she gave up to lead the Lioness program.
So far this season in the show, a congresswoman from Texas has been kidnapped and moved into Mexico. A Mexican cartel is the culprit, but it slaughters her family in the process. The CIA has ordered Joe to rescue both her and her kidnappers following a meeting between the Secretary of State and other top officials.
They believe that kidnapping is the first event in a line of actions that will end with China invading Taiwan. China is a major trading partner with Mexico in black oil.
When Joe gets home in Special Ops: Lioness, she sees her daughter selling lemonade and displaying her artwork. A strange couple purchases her drawings and wants to know if she can show them how to arrange their van for display. For a moment, Joe is afraid that something terrible will happen. But after realizing they are not menaces to society, she breathes a sigh of relief once again.
Her elder daughter mentions having seen her on television rescuing the congresswoman. Another scene shows Josephina working in Iraq. A CIA operation has her as part of a covert operation. Joe's team needs to fly to her destination and get on with the job once they are on foreign soil. The operation has to take place in Mexico to ensure that national attention does not become a problem.
Joe's team has been sent to Iraq, but Josephina's car is destroyed by a mine. In the end scene, Joe reunites with Josephina and she repeatedly asks him if she loves her country, but the army captain never gives a straight answer.
