Who plays Dr. Phil in Apple Cider Vinegar? Character explored in depth

Recently released on Netflix, Apple Cider Vinegar takes a scathing look at the pitfalls of influencers asserting massive influence on the internet. At the center of Apple Cider Vinegar is the character of Belle Gibson, played by Australian actress Kaitlyn Dever.

Belle Gibson uses her dubious malignant cancer diagnosis and supposed shift to alternative medicine and organic healing as ploys to gather substantial wealth and following.

The fourth episode of the Netflix show illustrated that Gibson first came to believe that she had cancer after visiting Dr. Phil in his warehouse chambers. Right off their first interaction on-screen, it becomes apparent to the audience that the two have known each other for some time, as Dr. Phil brings up Gibson’s mother and even her childhood in the conversation.

Following the examination of Gibson, Dr. Phil proceeds to tell her that there is a “cluster” existing somewhere inside her body. He further adds that there are signs of DNA damage in Gibson’s liver and hints towards a tumor. Consequently, Gibson is unable to bear the weight of this unfortunate diagnosis and breaks down in tears.

As it was later revealed in the finale episode of Apple Cider Vinegar, the accuracy of Dr. Phil’s diagnosis might have been up for debate when Gibson first came to know about it.

In a strange tale of twisting the reality around her so that it fits in well with her delusional designs, Gibson labored under the belief that she was afflicted with cancer despite never having handed a conclusive medical diagnosis that would spell out her cancer for her.

Born on February 23, 1975, Australian actor Callan Mulvey is forty nine years old as of this writing. He is best known for playing the character of Mark Moran in the drama Underbelly. Apart from having a successful career in Australia, Mulvey has made multiple forays into Hollywood, having appeared in such films as 300: The of An Empire and Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Creator Samantha Strauss opens up about Apple Cider Vinegar

While speaking in an exclusive interview with Tudum, the show’s creator Samantha Strauss revealed that although the show is fictional, it is rooted and inspired by the book by investigative journalists Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano. Strauss commented:

“The source material offered up terrific bones for a really interesting look at the rise and fall of a con woman. But Apple Cider Vinegar is about more than that. This story just couldn’t exist without showing someone like Lucy, she is the real-world consequences. Our show’s Belle is a very complicated person. She is so good at being a chameleon, taking on totally different personas, and doing everything she can to get what she wants. She’s very ruthless and very determined.”
