Who is Dr. Julian Rush in The Penguin? Backstory explored
This week the second episode of The Penguin dropped. Titled Inside Man, it was a rollercoaster, from giving out insights into the family life of the Penguin to introducing the new mystery character of Julian Rush. Dr Rush was introduced in the first few minutes of the episode and is shown as a doctor at the Arkham Asylum.
He closely works with Sofia as her psychologist and helps her overcome her issues with treatments like red light hypnosis therapy. Sofia was struggling with her nightmares and Dr. Rush helped her sail through those.
Some instances showed how close they were, like when she came out of the hypnotic state and was panicking, Dr. Rush held her close, hugging her till she calmed down. This was not like a regular doctor-patient hug and hinted at the possibility of the two of them sharing a relationship beyond the hospital.
Fan theories around Dr. Julian Rush from The Penguin
Various theories about Dr. Julian Rush have come out. The most popular one of him is Sofi's lover and the two of them share a dynamic similar to that of Harley Quinn and Joker, but many other theories have also started coming to light.
Some fans think Dr Rush might be a reimagined version of Scarecrow. This is because he too uses methods that are fear-inducing in nature.
Fans take the character with a pinch of salt and suspect that Julian might be a spy gathering information from Sofia. Theories of him possibly evolving into a new villain in the DC world since he is a brand-new character are also going around.
While all these theories might be valid, it is also possible that Dr Rush might be just another psychologist, with just a little off-beat methods of treating his patients.
Where the character of Dr. Julian Rush ends up in The Penguin remains to be seen.
