In the mystery-driven CBS series, Tracker, we see Melissa Roxburgh as Dr. Dory Shaw. She is Colter Shaw's sister and becomes a stabilizing influence in his life. Though their relationship shows distance and family secrets, they dive much deeper on an emotional level in order to deal with mysteries about their past.

Tracker also ran an episode in which Colter and Dory reconcile after a year's gap in communication. Even as the bond is strained, Dory is Colter's steady influence. She encourages him to confront painful realities-the death of their father, Ashton, the complicated relationships within the family, and unaddressed issues concerning their mother, Mary, played by Wendy Crewson.

They confront history with family when Dory hopes to reconnect Colter with their estranged brother, Russell, who he has been avoiding lately. The tensions building also hint at deeper revelations that could impact the future of the Shaw siblings and shed light on mysteries in their past.

Dory’s role as the voice of reason for her brother Colter on Tracker

Dory is a balancing force for Colter's hot-headed, mission-oriented personality. Even though she is suspicious of her father's death, Dory tries to keep her brother grounded. She had a problem with her mother, Mary, as Dory suspected that she is hiding some facts about Ashton's death.

According to Melissa Roxburgh's statements to TV Insider, Dory does not trust her mother. In fact, Dory believes that Mary made up a story for her convenience and not to reveal the truth.

Tracker star Roxburgh noted,

"Dory knows there is way more to the story [about Dad] than Mom has let on.”

Dory's suspicions about their mother are something Colter cannot fight with. As Roxburgh explained, Dory believes that facing these truths will eventually allow Colter to be healed.

The healing, she said, requires a tie with their family, including Russell. A family that Dory wants to see united.

The history between Colter, Dory, and Russell on Tracker

Adding to the turmoil on Tracker, Dory, and Colter's respective previous family choices further torment them. Dory is away living with her aunt and uncle and finds Colter holds something against her for leaving him behind. On the other hand, Colter stays behind to care for their mom and feels tied to that painful past he cannot let go off, easily.

The siblings discuss these tensions when Dory directly confronts Colter about his loyalty to their late father's ideals that she deems misguided.

She says,

"What happened happened, but I’m not going to let it have power over me.”

This would therefore seem to suggest that she's gone ahead, but is worried that Colter is still stuck within the trauma of their family.

Their bond is deeper when their brother Russell, played by Jensen Ackles, comes into the picture. Though Colter is not really open to reaching out to Russell, Dory encourages him to reconnect, which is due to the fact that healing their fractured bond is possible.

Russell's return revives the existing family tensions and suspense. This is because he apparently has some answers to questions involving their father's death. Dory hopes she will take up the middle ground, mend the gap between her two brothers, and drive the resolution of family mysteries.

Secrets of Tracker's past and what lies ahead for the Shaw family

Tracker continues to spin stories surrounding the tumultuous history of the Shaw family. Mary's questionable involvement in Ashton's death continues to play center stage. Furthermore, Mary's evasive nature has heightened suspicion among her children.

Roxburgh reports that Dory believes Mary knows something about Ashton's death and is keeping silent, revealing why Dory has withdrawn from her mother to hold onto the peace she still has left.

Of course, Colter and Dory are growing closer and closer to finding out more regarding their father, while realizing their conflicting memories about this man.

It remains to be seen if Mary will finally learn what really happened, but the series hints at carrying this story that has long been a burden to the Shaw siblings further than it has ever been. Or maybe, this is just the time when a family confrontation could tear Colter, Dory, and Russell apart for good.

New episodes of Tracker air on Sundays on CBS.
