Marvel’s Agatha All Along is bringing more and more surprises with every episode. The fourth episode dropped a reference to the Daughters of Liberty. The Daughters of Liberty is a powerful group rooted in real-world history, but at the same time, it also exists in the Marvel universe.
Agatha All Along is a Marvel miniseries that has new episodes releasing every Wednesday. The plot reads as follows:
A spell-bound Agatha Harkness regains freedom thanks to a teen's help. Intrigued by his plea, she embarks on the Witches' Road trials to reclaim her powers and discover the teen's motivations.
In the Marvel universe, it exists as a secret society for all the women fighting for freedom. Agatha's ties to the Daughters of Liberty have left Marvel fans in awe of the team. Let's explore Agatha's dark past and the history of the Daughters of Liberty, its memes, and its relevance in the Marvel universe.
The Daughters of Liberty connection with Agatha All Along
Historically speaking, the Daughters of Liberty is a real group formed in 1765. The group was formed by the Sons of Liberty, who were protesting against British rule.
Marvel adopted this very historical concept and wove it into its universe by building the group into a team of strong, skilled women dedicated to protecting freedom and justice across generations.
The group of these women is varied in nature, from combatants to spies to even women who practice black magic. As a matter of fact, the group of women who practice magic has been mentored by Agatha Harkness herself.
In the new Marvel comics, Agatha Harkness is a very strong character. The modern-day comic's roster includes Peggy Carter, Sharon Carter, Shuri, Black Widow, and Misty Knight. The crew is led by Dryad; together, they all fight to protect the world from various threats.
Below is a list of every known member from the marvel comics:
Agatha Harkness' role in Agatha All Along
In Agatha All Along episode 4, there was also an Easter egg that would interest MCU fans, as all the witches had gathered to discuss the scars they all had on their bodies. In the course of this discussion, Agatha was also asked about any scars she had on her body. In response to the question, she showed the scar on her elbow.
When asked how she got this scar, she said she got it from a large knitting needle and further proceeded to ask the coven members if they had ever heard of the Daughters of Liberty, to which they responded no. Her response was, "Exactly." This hinted at the possibility that she might have fought with the Daughters of Liberty, which could have led to their extinction.
Her reference using the needle also hinted that Agatha is talking about the former Daughter of Liberty and not the recent one in Marvel Comins Universe.
No one in her cover recognized the group she mentioned about, and this potentially hinted at her wiping out the entire coven, or at least thinking that she did.
In this broadcast version of Agatha, which was way darker than her comic book counterpart, it was shown as if the group was her adversarial. However, in the comics, Agatha is portrayed as a mentor and ally to the group, who goes on to teach them the ways of magic.
The Daughters of Liberty’s Future in the MCU
The reference in Agatha All Along is a way of showing that doors might be opening for the Daughters of Liberty to make a formal appearance in the Marvel universe. There are also speculations that the Daughters of Liberty could be the future hero card of the Marvel universe.
In response to these rumors, if Agatha's involvement continues, then we may find iterations of the Daughters of Liberty forming in the MCU soon. This could lead to the re-emergence of key characters, especially since several iconic figures from Marvel Comics—like Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman or Sue Storm—have yet to fully enter the MCU.
Fans of the comics and the MCU can now look forward to seeing how this historical and heroic group may unfold in future Marvel projects.
