Dalgliesh is back with Season 3 on Channel 5, featuring the brooding detective and accomplished poet Adam Dalgliesh as its lead protagonist.
Based on PD James White's novel series, Season 3 will consist of six episodes and will cover three stories in two episodes each. The first two episodes will find the detective investigating a murder in a seminary. The story is adapted from White's 2001 novel Death in Holy Orders.
Season 3 will also follow the detective after his promotion to commander and in-charge of a unit with high-profile cases.
Interestingly, Season 3 will also introduce a potential love interest for Bertie Carvel's Adam in actress Claire Goose, who will play the role of Dr. Emma Lavenham.
After her former work partner left, Adam felt the need to be private and not open up to anyone. Goose's introduction as a possible love interest will allow him to confide in someone and aid in his character growth in the story.
More on Claire Gosse's character in Dalgliesh Season 3 in our story.
How was Claire Goose introduced in Dalgliesh Season 3?
Actress Claire Goose joins the Dalgliesh Season 3 cast as Dr. Emma Lavenham. Our Detective meets her when investigating the murder of Archdeacon Matthew Crampton in a seminary. After a scandal, Crampton had suggested a series of positive changes in the school, but he turned up dead.
One of his changes suggested selling The Doom, the altarpiece, to raise money. This is how Goose's Claire, an art professor from London who attended the auction, comes into the picture.
While her proximity to the case meant she was to be interviewed, the detective thinks she is not a suspect.
While Emma will also appear in the later half of the show, viewers can expect to see a romance between her and the detective. Spoiler Alert! But long-time readers of White's books would recognize that she had an affair with the detective, and the two eventually got married in the books.
While it is yet to be seen how their relationship will turn out in the show, Carvel discussed Emma's influence on his character in Season 3 in an interview with RadioTimes,
''He’s going to, by the end of the series, take a leap, take a risk, and open himself to potential damage again by beginning a new relationship with Emma Lavenham.''
He added,
"But it's because of Miskin [his former work partner], it's because of the learning that, I think, has gone there, and because, in a way, he's closed doors before, and that's not completing him. He knows that he has to kind of open it again and take a risk."
