Netflix's latest Korean medical drama, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, debuted on January 24, 2025, and quickly climbed the platform's Top 10 charts.
Reminiscent of popular medical shows like ER and The Pitt, this latest medical show is based on a web novel titled, Trauma Center: Golden Hour by Hansanleega and Hongbichira, which was also adapted into a Naver webtoon in 2019.
The show follows the trauma department of Hankuk National University Hospital in South Korea, where Baek Kang-hyuk returns to help the struggling team of trauma doctors. Kang-hyuk is judged by many of his co-workers, who think he is rude and lacks manners. Soon, he proves himself and also gains a mentee in Choo Young-woo's Yang Jae-won.
Choo Young-woo is a South Korean actor who plays a fellow Yang Jae-won in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call. He has previously won the KBS Drama Award in the Best New Actor category for his series Oasis.

Choo Young-woo, the star of Netflix's latest Korean medical drama, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call started his acting career in 2021.
Young-woo's career started with the web BL series You Make Me Dance and the television series Police University. The following year, he appeared in another web series called Once Upon a Small Town and two television series, School 2021 and O'PENing – Babel Syndrome. His other television credits include K-dramas like Oasis and The Tale of Lady Ok.
After this latest medical drama, Young-woo is all set to appear in Gyeon U and Fairy, a fantasy romance drama, alongside actress Cho Yi Hyun. Young-woo will play the leading role of Bae Gyeon U, who falls in love with Park Seong A, a shaman and fairy.
In addition, he will also star in Netflix's crime drama Mercy For None as a supporting character, Lee Geum Son.

Hankuk National University Hospital's Trauma department gets a makeover when a skilled trauma surgeon, Baek Kang-hyuk, returns to his hometown after tending to patients overseas in a war-torn land.
He decided to revamp the trauma department and tend to the patients in need because the Hospital's head, Choi Jo-eun, had directed all funds to his business interests.
Young-woo's Yang Jae-won is an ambitious fellow in the colorectal surgery department. He is a talented fellow, who was at the top of his class for a whole semester in medical school.
But on Kang-hyuk's first day, he is on call at the trauma department and sees how tough his job can be in the trauma department.
After witnessing his senior's skilled practices as a surgeon, he must decide if he wants to continue in the trauma department under the mentorship of Kang-hyuk or go to his low-stress and low-effort department of proctology.
Ultimately, he decides to become Kang-hyuk's first disciple and learn the ways of surgery from his trained senior.
