Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban has been in the business for quite a long time. From being a door-to-door salesman to owning one of the NBA teams, the Dallas Mavericks, Mark has surely 'made a mark' as an American businessman and television personality.
In March 2024, the Shark Tank judge joined Computer Scientist and podcaster, Lex Fridman and divulged personal and professional viewpoints on various topics. During the podcast, the host, Lex Fridman, asked the shark to share some insights about who can fit the frame of an entrepreneur and what qualities check out for him when he is looking for one.
Mark Cuban, citing that the world of business is "ever-changing," one who is willing to walk down the path of entrepreneurship should be curious, willing to learn new things, and "one who is agile." Further adding that the environment around keeps changing, agility comes in handy to adapt and change accordingly. But the most important quality, according to Mark Cuban, was:
"Somebody who can sell, because no business has ever survived without sales. And as an entrepreneur who's creating a company, whatever your product or service is, if that's not the most important thing and you're just dying and excited to tell people about it, then you're not gonna succeed."

During the podcast with Lex Fridman, Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban discussed the skill of selling as one of the most important qualities for becoming a successful entrepreneur. He elaborated on his argument and answered Lex Fridman's question, "How to sell?" with "selling is just helping."
He elaborated that he tries to put himself in the shoes of the customers and thinks of ways he can help them with his product or service. Citing his example when he used to sell garbage bags from door to door, he remarked:
"Just asking a simple question, "Do you use garbage bags? Do you need garbage bags? Well, let me save you some time. I'll bring them to your house and drop them off."
He also discussed his experience running Broadcast.com, which provides webcasting and streaming services for college basketball. He cited his efforts to resolve the setbacks of TV and radio broadcasting services, which did not allow viewers to watch from anywhere.
Lastly, regarding his recent venture in the pharmaceutical industry with Cost Plus Drugs, he mentioned how he tried to help people by simplifying the process and providing transparency and cost-effective drugs.
