Her best friend and maid of honor is found dead on the Winbury estate beach. This shocking event sets off a string of revelations that will set the course of Amelia’s future.
Meritt’s death investigation begins and Amelia suddenly finds herself in the middle of a murder case. Her wedding turns into a nightmare and Amelia is shaken to her core. She is forced to think of the unthinkable. She wonders if Merritt’s death was accidental or if it has any ties to the Winbury family. This makes her relationship with the family even more strained. This extends to her bond with Benji, which suffers too as the truth slowly reveals itself.
Does Amelia marry Benji in The Perfect Couple?
Amelia and Benji do not end up getting married in The Perfect Couple. Their relationship was never smooth sailing. In the beginning, Benji makes an emotional toast and calls Amelia his “penguin” and gives viewers the idea that they may, after all, truly love each other. But as the story progresses, Benji and Amelia drift apart, especially when Benji catches her kissing Shooter, his best man.
There is, however, a brief reconciliation period in the penultimate episode. Drunk Benji and Amelia share an intimate moment in the kitchen at Greer’s book party. Yet, in the season finale, we see them parting ways for good.
After Abby’s arrest, Benji sends Amelia off in a taxi and he chooses to stay behind. In one of their final conversations, Benji tells her in a confession that he wanted to think of her as a liar but she has so much goodness within her and that she’s the woman he truly loved.
Why did Greer write a book about Amelia in The Perfect Couple?
Greer wanted to write a book about her younger years and her days as an escort. But, as she was recalling those times in her life, she realized why she could never really accept Amelia and why she was always so judgemental about her. She realized that she admired Amelia’s authenticity. She was jealous of how real Amelia was, of how she was always true to herself, something Greer often struggled with.
She also admires how Amelia handles trauma, grief, and disappointment. So, she decides to change the focus of her book. It seemed like Greer almost wanted to be like Amelia. Hence, the book explores female friendship that is not tinged with jealousy. It is authentic, supportive, and loving.
Greer aspires to have qualities like Amelia, and so she goes beyond just Amelia and focuses on the positive impact of genuine female friendship. Her book, thus, reflects her growth and embraces a new perspective of life, while going through a journey of self-discovery and self-love.
