One of the longest-running military police procedurals, NCIS in CBS, has been on-air for almost 22 years. In its sixteenth season, the fifteenth episode, "Crossing the Line," refers to season 9 episode 24, "Till Death Do Us Part," and that reference has to do something with Agent Girard, who died in that episode.

In addition to 22 seasons of the main show, it has spun off to several concurrent shows such as NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Hawaiʻi, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: New Orleans.

What happens in NCIS season 16 episode 15?

In this NCIS episode, Wilmer Valderrama's Agent, Nick Torres, is responsible for mentoring three high school students. He is struggling to connect with these three students and is considering giving up. However, that's where he learns about one of these students' connections to the NCIS team. He learns that one of the students is Max Girard, who is Agent Ed Girard's son.

It is revealed that Ed Girard was one of the agents who perished in the attack on NCIS headquarters which happened in season 9 episode 24, "Till Death Do Us Part." In that season finale, a terrorist group plants an explosive inside an agent's car. When the explosive is discovered, Jonathan Cole tries his best to defuse it but dies in the explosion.

Who is Agent Girard in NCIS season 16 episode 15?

After watching "Crossing the Line," NCIS fans tried to find out if there was an Agent Girard in the season 9 finale. It was discovered that someone called Agent Girard did not appear in that episode. It is possible that he may have been one of the background agents working in NCIS.

However, we know what he looks like because Agent Girard's face is seen on a wall that honours agents who lost their lives in the line of duty. It is also to be noted that this NCIS episode aired on February 26, 2019. Conversely, the season 9 finale aired on May 15, 2012. However, canonically, six years have passed since Agent Girard's passing.

Also, NCIS has a habit of paying references to its past and, commonly, new characters will come back to the show. So, Max may take over his father and become the new Agent Girard in NCIS. This time, he may be even played by an adult.

What is NCIS about?

Since its inception in September 2003, NCIS has had a simple plot line that the viewers can follow. The Major Case Response Team, or MCRT, a fictional department of the NCIS (a real agency) investigates crimes like death and treason related to the Marine Corps and the US Navy.

Until Season 18, this team was under the leadership of the gunnery sergeant and scout sniper Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

However, Gibbs leaves NCIS in "Great Wide Open," the fourth episode of season 19. After Gibbs, former FBI Special Agent Alden Parker played by Gary Cole leads the team.
