Avengers: Doomsday has entered production. This was confirmed by Marvel Studios on March 26, 2025, through a live stream on YouTube that ran for approximately five and a half hours. Through this stream, 26 actors were confirmed to star in the movie, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, what has been revealed through the stream is not the entire cast. However, it is unclear how Marvel will reveal the rest of the cast.
The stream was great news for fans of X-Men, especially the movie franchise of the 2000s. That's because it confirmed officially that Avengers: Doomsday would see Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer reprising their roles from the aughts mutants film franchise.
Fans are especially hyped up about Kelsey Grammer because he is the actor many fans associate with the character of the furry blue mutant, Beast. While his return has excited fans, they are also wondering which version of Beast Grammer will play in Avengers: Doomsday.
The Frasier actor had reprised his mutant character in the post-credit scene of the 2023 movie, The Marvels. So, his return was something that many were hoping for. The question, however, lingers on about which continuity his version of Beast will be from. Some believe that the Beast seen in Doomsday will be the same as the one in The Marvels. However, there are questions regarding this version of Beast.
Avengers: Doomsday: Which version of Beast will Kelsey Grammer be portraying?
It must be noted that Kelsey Grammer has portrayed not one but three versions of the X-Man, Beast. The first time we saw the actor in the avatar was almost 20 years ago in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. The movie, despite its commercial success, is one of the most reviled comic book movies in the genre among most fans. However, despite all the vitriol directed towards The Last Stand, Kelsey Grammer's Beast is one of the appreciated aspects of the movie.
He was deemed good enough to be retained in the closing moments of 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, where the entire timeline was rebooted, and the first three movies and two Wolverine spin-offs were wiped off the continuity. However, we didn't see him as Beast after Days of Future Past, and all hopes of seeing him in the role were dashed after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox in 2018.
However, something surprising happened in 2023. The Marvels, which was released in November that year, featured a treat for the fans of the mutant. In the end of the movie, Teyonah Parris's Monica Rambeau is stranded in an alternate reality as she tries to repair a tear in reality between the mainline MCU Earth and another.
In the post-credit scene, we learn that the Earth she is stranded in has her mother as Binary and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. He also mentions Charles Xavier's name, but we don't see him. While it wasn't confirmed back then, a lot of fans are theorizing that the Beast seen here is the same as the one from the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past. That's because the background music played in the scene is the same one we heard in X2: X-Men United and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Whatever our fan theories, it will be confirmed officially soon enough, when Avengers: Doomsday releases on May 1, 2026.
