Tom Welling has been a regular on Smallville over its ten-season run. However, throughout all those seasons of Smallville, there was one particular phase that Tom Welling disliked the most. The "Red Blue Blur" phase, in particular, when Tom Welling's Clark donned a black dress and became a nocturnal vigilante, was the one which is his least favorite, as per a report by ScreenRant.

The reason behind his dislike for his storyline is that it resembled Batman to a greater degree. This was revealed by Welling recently during the Fan Expo New Orleans, where he was present alongside other Smallville cast members.

Tom Welling stated:

"I'll tell you my least favorite was the Red Blue Blur stuff, I hated it! You saw me being just disgruntled, I knew it needed to happen because we were...we were dying! It was this stupid thing where Clark had this Alter Ego where he dressed in black, and he was like Batman. And then, as much as I hated it, and Clark really didn't like it - I had to do scenes with Lois who keeps saying how great the Red Blue Blur is. It was just like, 'What are we doing?' It was just Clark being a vigilante at night."

Here's everything that we know.

Will Tom Welling ever return to Smallville?

Despite his disappointment with the Red Blue Blur plot, Welling is hopeful of playing Clark Kent in future seasons of the show. In recent years, Welling and Lex Luthor actor Michael Rosenbaum have been developing an animated series set after the events of the television program. The two actors would be joined by other original cast members to voice the roles. As of now, the desired series has not been formally greenlit, but supporters remain optimistic that it will happen soon.

In an interview with KryptonSite, Tom Welling had previously revealed:

"We've been talking about it for a few years. We want to do a Smallville comic book and animated series, and then we would all voice the characters. We've already got an artist, and we have a poster. We haven't been able to share it yet, but Lionel Luthor is looming over everybody, and it's really cool. But we just can't do anything without DC saying we can do it. They just haven't given us a green light, but we're ready, and Al (Gough) and Miles (Millar), who wrote Smallville, want to write it. But it's not our property, until they say we can do it."

He further added:

"It would be more of a labor of love. It’s not going to make a billion dollars, so the studio is kind of like (grumbles). Maybe we can do a — not a GoFundMe, because that’s financial — but like a petition. We can petition Warner Bros. to let us do it'

What is Smallville all about?

The show involves young Clark Kent's coming-of-age experiences in his fictitious hometown of Smallville, Kansas, before he officially becomes the Man of Steel. The first four seasons follow Clark and his companions through high school, his tumultuous romance with neighbor Lana Lang, and his friendship with eventual foe Lex Luthor. From season five on, the show delves into Clark's early adulthood, eventually focusing on his employment at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane and introducing additional DC comic book superheroes and villains.

The show is now exclusively available on Hulu.
