The new season of Outlander introduced us to many new characters, in addition to our beloved ones like Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. One of them was Irish actor Diarmaid Murtagh, who portrayed Buck Mackenzie.
Based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel series of the same name, Outlander follows Caitriona Balfe’s character Claire Randall, who travels back in time to the 18th century. There, she meets new people and gets herself tangled in the history.
The fan-favorite show debuted on Starz in August 2014. It quickly gained attention with its story and intense chemistry between the lead actors Caitriona Balfe’s Claire and Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser. Who is Diarmaid Murtagh? The actor's career and notable projects explored
Born on July 28, 1982, the Irish actor played the character of Buck Mackenzie in Outlander Season 7. The last time the character (played by Graham McTavish) appeared was in season 5, and it was in the 18th century, but in season 7 Murtagh's character, Buck Mackenzie, has time-traveled to the 20th century, which introduced new twists and storylines.
Diarmaid Murtagh was a great addition to the new Outlander season. However, the 42-year-old actor appeared in many popular shows and movies.
His debut television role was in the Irish soap opera Ros na Rún in 2007. He has also appeared as a detective in a medical drama called The Clinic (2008-2009).
Murtagh gained prominence with his role in the popular show Vikings, where he portrayed the character of Leif. Since then, he has been part of many popular shows like The Tourist, starring Jamie Dornan, where he played the character of Donal McDonnell. He has also appeared in the miniseries Sons Of Liberty as Tim Kelly, Bloodlands as Robert Dardis, the Netflix sci-fi show The One as Connor Martin, and the historical fiction Troy: Fall Of City as Hermes.

His most recent role is in Nick Hamm's movie William Tell, starring Claes Bang, where Murtagh plays the character of Master Builder.
