Showtime's Yellowjackets debuted in November 2021 and quickly became a popular survival thriller drama series.

Led by an ensemble cast of Melanie Lynskey, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Steven Krueger, and Warren Cole, it follows an all-female soccer team that gets stranded in the Wilderness after their plane crashes in 1996.

Since Yellowjackets follows two timelines, the show has two settings- one in the Canadian Wilderness in 1996 and the other at Camp Green Pine, Lottie's wellness retreat in 2021.

While the show primarily focuses on the Canadian wilderness and how the team survived for 19 months being stranded, it jumps back and forth between both settings.

More on Yellowjackets setting in our story.

Exploring the Wilderness setting and timeline in Yellowjackets

This is the timeline and setting viewers spend most of their time watching as the group is stranded in the Wilderness in 1996.

It is later revealed the group spent around 19 months in the Wilderness until they were finally rescued in 1998. While we see glimpses of how the group was saved in the Season 2 premiere, the whole story is yet to be revealed.

The Yellowjackets soccer team is from New Jersey and was traveling to Seattle for a national tournament. But while their plane was flying over Canada, it crashed and got stranded in the Canadian Wilderness, which is the setting for the majority of the show.

They are surrounded by forests and wild animals and finally take shelter in a nearby cabin. As time passes and the girls start to starve, they resort to violent and brutal practices. When Jackie, one of the members, dies in Season 2 after freezing from death, they burn her body and eat her flesh, finally resorting to cannibalism.

Lottie, one of the members who seems to have established a spiritual connection with the Wilderness, starts to have 'visions,' and is later shown that she survived and started a weird cult in the present timeline.

Exploring the setting and present timeline of Lottie's cult in Yellowjackets

The other timeline for Yellowjackets is the present one, set in 2021, which shows all the survivors who made it out alive in 1998. While the past timeline moves forward 9-11 months throughout the show's two seasons, time moves relatively slowly in the present, as it covers only 3-4 months.

Lottie is one of the survivors, and when we meet her in the present timeline, she has started her own cult, or her 'wellness retreat,' located at Camp Green Pine, located in some rural area off Route 19.

She explains what this retreat is about:

"We are not a cult. We are an intentional community turning suffering into strength so we can live as our best selves."

In the 2021 timeline, Lottie has set up a wellness retreat, where she acts as the leader and motivational leader of the group. At night, the group indulges in bonfires and ritualistic sacrificial practices, including faux burials, symbolizing that Lottie has not recovered from her experience in the Wilderness.

While we see very little of this timeline, in the Season 2 finale, Natalie is accidentally killed when the group decides to make a sacrifice to the Wilderness.
