Set against the backdrop of London during Christmas, Black Doves is a story about friendship and sacrifice. Starring Keira Knightley as Helen Webb a down-to-earth, witty, and dedicated wife and a professional spy. For 10 years she keeps an eye on her politician husband for some shadowy organisation she works for.
Sam Young as Ben Whishaw is one of the coolest assassins one could witness on screen. He suffered a failure in his job and has been out of the game, as his past threatens him his task is to protect Helen and find out who killed her secret lover. Together they uncover huge conspiracies connecting London's underworld with geopolitical crisis.
The audience's response to Black Doves?
The 6-episodic series has been praised by the audiences for its banger performances and the amalgamation of themes like love, and sacrifice, blending with intense action along with emotional depth. Critics have also highlighted its fresh take on familiar spy tropes.
Some also pointed out that the plot is muddled in between and poses some typical spy dialogues but indeed, the engaging character development with a mix of action and emotional moments makes it a hit in terms of genres and for fans.
The makers revealed that there will also be a season 2, during the Edinburgh TV Festival. The exact release date has not been revealed, though plans are in place for the season 2 story. The series is written and executive produced by Joe Barton.
