Peacock’s Twisted Metal is known for its hilarious take on the post-apocalyptic genre. Based on the eponymous video game, the show is set in a dystopian wasteland, where a milkman named John Doe is tasked with a mission that can change his life.

However, with his loud-mouthed personality and his struggle with amnesia, John often gets into trouble with the marauders while moving through the wasteland. The show authentically portrays a post-apocalyptic world, which makes one wonder where was it filmed.

The first season was majorly shot in Louisiana, US, while the production moved to Ontario, Canada for the second season. Here are some fascinating details about the Twisted Metal filming locations.

Twisted Metal filming locations

1) New Orleans, Louisiana

Twisted Metal Season 1 was primarily filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana. The cast and crew shot for important sequences in the city from May to August 2022. Some prominent locations of the city that were utilized as filming sites include the Lake Shore - Lake Vista neighborhood, and the stadium of Caesars Superdome.

The production team also shot some scenes in the historic French Quarter neighborhood, and in areas around the Mississippi River. Series star Anthony Mackie revealed to Screen Rant that he filmed at a closed-down mall in the city as well.

New Orleans is known for its diversity, multilingual culture, and vibrant festivals, which makes it an ideal place to shoot a show like Twisted Metal. However, the team had to endure extreme weather during the shoot. According to Wikipedia, in an interview with NOLA.com, executive producer Michael Jonathan Smith revealed they faced hurricanes, lightning, and excruciating heat during the production in the city.

2) LaPlace, Louisiana

Some scenes of the first season were filmed in LaPlace, a census-designated area situated around 29 miles from New Orleans. The town is famous for its quiet neighborhoods, abandoned buildings, and wetlands.

This helped the crew in creating a post-apocalyptic feel in the show. The scene where Sweet Tooth, the serial killer clown, drives an ice cream truck, was particularly filmed in LaPlace.

3) Toronto, Ontario

Instead of New Orleans, the production team chose Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as the base location for filming Twisted Metal Season 2. The shoot commenced in July 2024 and went on till October of the same year.

The Cambridge City Hall, situated at 50 Dickson Street, Cambridge, Ontario, is seen as the New San Francisco in the show. The heritage building was constructed in 1858 and is now utilized for administrative purposes.

Toronto has a thriving film industry and offers several production facilities. At the same time, the city has a variety of neighborhoods and a diverse population. Hence, the production crew likely saw it as an ideal location to shoot the second season.

4) Hamilton, Ontario

A few scenes of the show were filmed in Hamilton, a port city in Ontario. In September 2024, a bakery located opposite the historic Delta Secondary School was used as a filming location for Twisted Metal Season 2.

Hamilton is known for its industrial neighborhoods, where large factories, warehouses, and abandoned buildings are situated. This matches with the show’s post-apocalyptic ambiance. The city’s mix of old and new buildings further created an engaging backdrop for the series.

Twisted Metal season 1 is currently streaming on Peacock. The release date of the second season has not been announced yet.
