Netflix’s Toxic Town premiered on February 27, 2025. Based on a true story, the four-part drama follows a group of mothers who fight a legal case against the Corby Borough council for mismanaging toxic waste created by steel factories in the town.

It stars Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood, Robert Carlyle, and several other popular names. Written by Jack Thorne, known for his work in Enola Holmes and His Dark Materials, the show is based on the small town of Corby in Northamptonshire district, England.

However, the show was filmed in several other locations such as Bolton, Sale, and Liverpool.

Let’s take a look at the filming locations of Toxic Town.

The filming of Toxic Town started in late 2023, with Bolton being the major location. The show used a local pub called The Mosley Arms in Breightmet, which was renamed as the Rockingham Arms for the show.

The owner of the pub, Paul Longmire, was excited that his outlet was being used for the filming of a Netflix drama. He told The Bolton News:

"We are thrilled to have had our pub The Mosley Arms become part of what we are sure will be another fantastic show on Netflix."

Other than Breightmet, the show was also filmed in Bolton's Le Mans Crescent. Bolton is regarded as the Hollywood of the North and has been used by many popular shows for filming, including Peaky Blinders and It’s a Sin.

2) Holmfirth

Other than Bolton, the show was also filmed in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. The town provided the rural backdrop for the show.

The Holme Valley Memorial Hospital in Huddersfield Road was used for key moments in the drama.

3) Liverpool

Apart from that, Huskisson Street, Falkner Square Gardens, and Bedford Street were also used for the filming of Toxic Town.

4) Stockport, Sale, and other locations in Greater Manchester

The show was also filmed in Stockport. All these locations provided the urban look of the late 20th century in the show.

More about Toxic Town

youtube-cover

Toxic Town depicts the true story of mothers who fought a legal battle against their council borough for mishandling of toxic waste in the small town of Corby.

It was a landmark incident, as it was the first case that linked birth defects to toxic waste.

While talking to Netflix, writer Jack Thorne revealed that he was not aware of the case before, but the more he read about it, the more he was surprised by the drama that the real case engulfed. He said:

"I didn’t know the story. I’d never heard of the people involved, and I’d never heard of the case until it was brought to me by [my co-executive producers Annabel Jones and Charlie Brooker]."

He added:

"It had within it a lot of drama. Whether it’s the story of the trial itself, or whether it’s the way that these women got together and battled together."
