Where was The Six Triple Eight filmed?

The filming of The Six Triple Eight began in 2023 and was shot on real locations to enhance the historical accuracy of the story. It was shot in areas that resembled the wartime setting during the 6888th Battalion across the United Kingdom, in cities including Atlanta, Bradford, Georgia, Cedartown, Chattanooga, and Tennessee.

Bradford, West Yorkshire

Bradford was the place in the United Kingdom where the Batallion was posted during the war. Therefore, the film has been primarily shot in the city of Bradford, in the province of West Yorkshire.

Production designer Sharon Busse, who has earlier worked with Perry on 13 projects, replicated the King Edward’s School, where the women worked and lived along with the war-torn streets of London.

The Little Germany area of Bradford, famous for its Victorian architecture, was used to depict European cities during the war. Locations such as Cater Street, Currer Street, Peckover Street, and Scoresby Street used to bring alive the wartime atmosphere.

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, UK

Additional shoots also happened in the Imperial War Museum Duxford, especially for scenes that required historical military setting. Duxford is home to many World War II era planes and artifacts that served as an authentic backdrop for the film.

Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum was utilized for train-related scenes in The Six Triple Eight. This helped the designers recreate scenes featuring period trains of the 1940s.

Cedartown, Georgia

Cedartown is known for its picturesque downtown and historic buildings. The team moved on March 28, 2023, to this small town with quiet, scenic streets that provided a perfect backdrop for the intimate scenes.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta has diverse architecture, which allowed the production to create scenes resembling the 1940s. The bustling energy of the city and its landmarks were the key factors that prompted the makers to shoot in the location.

In addition to this, Atlanta offers top-notch filming facilities and experienced crew members, and has long been a hub for movie production. Various films have earlier been shot in the city facilitating transforming spaces to resemble different time zones, from modern cityscapes to period dramas.

“In the history of my 41-year career in the industry, I’ve never worked on anything that is so important to me, and to my mother who lived through all that history,” Busse told Netflix. “The story is just incredible, and when I read the script, I started crying just at how beautiful it was.”

The Six Triple Eight features Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, and Sam Waterston in prominent roles. The film released on the streaming platform Netflix on December 20.
