Essex College is in session again for The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 3. With HBO's streak of canceling fan-favorite shows, viewers were worried about the fate of this beloved comedy series, centered around the lives of four college-going girls.
Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble created the show. After a successful two seasons, it was renewed for Season 3, and premiered on November 21, 2024, on HBO Max.
Three original cast members, Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, are seen returning in main roles on The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 3. However, Renée Rapp’s Leighton, an original cast member, will not return in full capacity.

A college with killer frat parties and interesting extracurriculars had to be not real, no!? This Vermont college does not exist in real life, and the production used different campuses and locations to shoot the exterior and interior of the college scenes in different seasons.
The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 1 was shot in New York
The production used the exterior and interior of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, to shoot for Essex College in Season 1. They shot in this liberal arts school for about three weeks in June 2021.
According to Gladwyn Lopez, Associated VP for Communications at Vassar,
"Filming at the school was 'primarily' outside of buildings, with a variety of locations used that included the main gate, athletic fields, the president’s house, the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film, Rockefeller and Blodgett Halls, and several quads ... the library was used for interior scenes,"
In addition, some shots from Season 1 were also shot at Warner Brothers' Burbank Studios. Various off-campus scenes were shot around Raymond and Collegeview Avenue.
The doughnut store featured on the show is actually All Shook Up Cafe & Juice Bar on 44 Raymond Avenue. The Sips coffeehouse, where Kimberly works part-time, is actually Kerckhoff Coffee House at SoCal University.
The Essex College from The Sex Lives of College Girls shifted to Los Angeles and Washington in Season 2
The production did not return to Vassar College to shoot for Season 2 of the show. Fans noticed a change of scenery in Essex College in Season 2 because the scenes were shot at the University of California in Los Angeles as well as the University of Washington.
The production used the 'quad area' of the Seattle campus to shoot many scenes. Many students from their University even shared sneak peeks of shooting on their social media. The crew even hired about 100 students from the University to help as extras. Because, who would play college students better than actual college students?
Shoreline Community College in Washington was another location where the production shot scenes for The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2.
