In the Apple TV+ new series, Severance, Ms. Casey is Mark's ex-wife whom he thinks is dead in a car crash. This has resulted in Mark's Outtie's depression and he chooses to undergo the surgery to deal with the grief. The premiere of the season showed a glimpse which Ms. Casey is in a mysterious room on Mark's desktop displaying her vitals and a 68 % finished progress bar. This suggests that Lumon is developing a new severance chip and Gemma might be a test subject for the same. In season 2, Mark might spend a significant amount of time trying to find her real self, Gemma.

In season 1 of Severance, Gemma retires from her post as wellness therapist, she met a car crash accident that led to her death, apparently. But at the end of Season 1, during the "Wakeup Protocol", Mark comes out and screams "She's Alive".

Gemma didn't die in the car crash like Mark thinks. It is suggested that Lumon used the car crash as a cover-up to start an experiment on Gemma against her will. They also hire Mark afterward to keep an eye on both of them.
