The newest mystery thriller on Netflix, Missing You, gave the fans of Harlan Coben a thrilling and twisted start to the new year. Premiering on January 1, 2025, the show follows Detective Kat as she tries to solve the mystery of her father’s death while also getting entangled in things from her past.

While the original novel by Coben is based in New York, the show has been set in England. Running for five episodes, Missing You has shot a large part in Manchester City Centre along with other locations in the UK.

As reported by Radio Times, lead writer and executive producer of Missing You, Victoria Asare-Archer, mentioned while talking about the filming locations for the show,

"I live in the countryside, so the rural landscapes were very important to us. There is a version of the countryside that is wonderfully pretty and beautiful and full of gorgeous rolling fields. The cliché is: urban – bad, country – good, but we wanted to subvert that by exploring the darkness of the countryside in Titus’ world.”

Let us now explore the filming locations of Missing You in detail.

Missing You filming locations

Manchester City Centre in Manchester, England

A huge part of Missing You is filmed in and around Manchester City. Right at the beginning of the show, when Kat goes for her date, the Manchester Northern Quarter is visible as the backdrop. Moreover, a lot of bars, cafes, pubs etc that are covered in the show also happen to be in Manchester itself.

Glossop in Derbyshire, England

Two films in Glossop serve as the crime zone of Titus Monroe, played by Steve Pemberton. A man with his own set of secrets and dirty deeds, Glossop’s firm served as the perfect location for someone like Titus to live.

Talking about the location, Pemberton mentioned,

"Glossop is where I spent a lot of time in The League of Gentlemen. We worked in and around Glossop all those years ago, so as soon as we were driving into that location – the buildings, the architecture, the landscape – it all came flooding back to me. Obviously, Titus needs to be doing his shenanigans in a very remote place. We used two farms, one for the interiors and one for the exteriors.”

Because of the setting and the vibe of the firms, it was the perfect location for the finale to unfold and bring a resolution to the tension that had been building up in Missing You.

Manchester Art Gallery in Manchester, England

Manchester Art Gallery is another important filming location in Missing You because Kat’s conversation with Calligan, the organized crime boss, takes place here. Calligan himself chose the place, which showed he is a man of refined taste and culture.

The art gallery went perfectly with the mood of the conversation there and added visual value to the drama as viewers witnessed a public gallery that had been in operation since 1883.

Sefton Park in Liverpool, England

Aqua, Kat, and Stacey gather around a particular structure to do yoga in Missing You episode 1, which has immense historical significance and is located at Sefton Park.

However, upon closer observation, the Manchester skyline is visible in these scenes also, showing that it has been superimposed by the makers of the show so that the choice of location appears consistent throughout the show.

Tony Wilson’s Loft In Knott Mill in Manchester, England

Kat, the central character of Missing You, is shown to be not only a skilled detective but also a person who makes great choices when it comes to her personal life. Her apartment vouches for her great taste and has an extremely modern look with its open floor plan and slanted roofing.

Interestingly, her apartment is a real-life loft built on a converted warehouse in Manchester’s Knott Mill area.

Besides these, outdoor shots of Missing You have also been shot in Bolton, the Lake District of Keswick, Parkgate in Cheshire, England, etc.

Missing You can be streamed on Netflix.
