Both Season 1 and Season 2 of Mayfair Witches are filmed in New Orleans. This city is forever linked to the late Anne Rice as her birthplace.
The city's rich history, stunning architecture, diverse community, and whispers of ghosts and vampires all contribute to its unique appeal. Season 1 of the show debuted on AMC+ on 8th January and concluded after eight long episodes on February 26, 2023.
Now the creators have hinted that the fans can expect season two of the show by 2025.
The show is an American supernatural thriller drama TV series based on Anne Rice's novel trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches, created by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford.
The series stars Alexandra Daddario as Dr. Rowan Mayfair, a neurosurgeon who discovers she has supernatural powers. As she delves deeper, she learns that she's part of a long line of witches, which explains her new abilities.
In this article let's take a look at some of the locations used in the show.
Exploring all the Mayfair Witches filming locations
Rice drew inspiration from her surroundings while writing her novel. To stay true to the book, the producers wanted to film most scenes in and around New Orleans. Some of the important locations seen in the series included.
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA: Mayfair Witches is set in New Orleans, the largest city in Louisiana. Some key scenes for the show are filmed on First Street and in a church in the city. New Orleans is located on the Mississippi River.
Soria-Creel House: The Soria-Creel House, built in 1875, is a beautiful Gothic-style home located at 3102 Prytania St. It's where the Mayfairs live in the show and where the mysterious Lasher has been a constant presence.
The house was used for exterior shots, while the interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage. This old house looks a lot like Anne Rice's real home, Rosegate House, which was the inspiration for the Mayfair Mansion.
Lafayette Cemetery No. 1: This graveyard in the Garden District of New Orleans has existed since 1833 and remains active today. You might recall the scene from the show where Rowan encounters Lasher for the first time at a lively Second Line parade.
These parades often honor life and sometimes form part of funeral ceremonies. The city owns Lafayette Cemetery and leases it out for movie and TV show productions.
St. Bernard Parish Hospital, Chalmette, Louisiana, USA: The show filmed several scenes at St. Bernard Parish Hospital in Chalmette, Louisiana.
This hospital served as the spot for Doctor Keck’s Office, creating a spooky and haunting feel, which was important for the show's supernatural and mysterious storylines.
The fact that it's a real hospital added to the realism, with its old buildings and atmosphere helping to create a creepy and unsettling atmosphere.
The Ranch Film Studio, Chalmette, Louisiana, USA:
Another location that the show uses for filming is The Ranch Film Studio in Chalmette. While filming at The Ranch, the cast and crew left their mark by adding artwork, autographs, and sketches to a special wall now known as the "Mayfair Witches" wall.
Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches season 1 is available for fans to stream on AMC and AMC+.
