The Defenders, some of the popular superheroes from Netflix, have also been missing prominently in the latest Disney+ show, Daredevil: Born Again. The latter has generated confusion among the masses, particularly with the fact that the show serves as a reprise of the original Netflix version.

Until now, only Frank Castle (The Punisher) of the Netflix universe has been announced for a return to Daredevil: Born Again and is being portrayed by the brilliant Jon Bernthal.

The show centers around Matt Murdock's (Daredevil) continuous fight against Wilson Fisk, now the mayor of New York City. Even with no Defenders seen in the first season, there are hints and proposals for their return in future seasons.

The status of The Defenders during Daredevil: Born Again

The Defenders team, which includes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, has not appeared in Daredevil: Born Again yet. Yet, there have been recent talks and speculations on their possible return to future seasons. The characters are not yet retired from the universe, with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage still living in New York.

Colleen Wing as the Iron Fist also suggests that such characters can be easily brought back into the MCU story. Marvel Television is investigating methods for the return of these characters, perhaps in a format that would be consistent with their existing storylines.

Danny Rand could, for example, come back, but not as the audience might hope, potentially as the mentor to the next Iron Fist, Lin Lie. The return of the characters would be meaningful since it could create a reunion of the Defenders team as well as possibly incorporate them into the broader MCU storylines.

Potential Future Involvement

There are strong signs that the Defenders could be back in future seasons of Daredevil: Born Again. There are rumors that Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will be included in Season 2, which would be a big deal for the show. If they do come back, it would open the door for a Defenders reunion, possibly leading to a new team dynamic in the MCU.

This may also involve crossovers with other street-level heroes such as Moon Knight or Hawkeye, widening the show's scope. Their inclusion would not only excite fans but also enhance the story by introducing various storylines and themes.

For instance, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage might delve into their private lives and relationships, while Iron Fist might venture into the mystical aspects of the MCU.

The MCU's Strategy for Reintegrating The Defenders

Marvel Studios is very much taking their time deciding how to integrate the Defenders back into the MCU. The studio understands the creative value and risks that come with reintroducing these characters. Brad Winderbaum, a Marvel Television executive, has stated they are excited about tapping into this part of the universe, being mindful of dealing with actors and big productions.

The Defenders' return should be done with care so that their histories fit into the larger MCU narrative. This might mean folding them into current storylines or establishing new ones that honor their history while progressing. Success would hinge on finding a balance between fan demand and the necessity of developing these characters in the changing landscape of the MCU.
