Bad Sisters, an Irish dark comedy series, brings together humor and suspense in a scenic portrayal of Ireland. Created by Sharon Horgan, Brett Baer, and Dave Finkel, the show is based on the 2012 Belgian series Clan. It follows the lives of the Garvey sisters—Grace, Eva, Bibi, Ursula, and Becka—as they navigate a tragic twist: the death of Grace’s abusive husband, which raises suspicions of murder within the family.

The first season aired on Apple TV+ in August 2022, receiving wide applause for its narrative and setting. After getting such an overwhelming response, the show was renewed for a second season. Now it is decided that the series will return on November 13, 2024. Upon its return, the show will revolve around the Garvey Sisters as they face their parents' deaths together.

Complete Filming Locations of Bad Sisters

With a majority of scenes filmed in Ireland, the show captures the raw beauty of Dublin, County Wicklow, and other scenic spots. Here is a breakdown of the stunning filming locations that Bad Sisters fans can recognize on screen:

1) Forty Foot, Sandycove, County Dublin

The two sisters, Garvey’s, are seen at the well-known swim center situated at Sandycove towards the southern area of Dublin Bay, otherwise known as Forty Foot. Not only does this place have a backstory for the Irish, especially swimmers who have visited the place on more than one occasion, but it also evokes the memories of the characters who are looking back into the past and how they were as young people. Sharon Horgan was keen to shoot here after visiting the places and using the vast beauty of the Irish Sea as a backdrop added further justification for the scene.

2) Malahide and Howth, County Dublin

Brought together by the alluring coastline in Dublin, both Malahide and Howth present their individuality in the series. Apart from the lovely marina and the castle in the picture, also known as the Malahide Castle, Malahide is one of the places that becomes a familiar venue for Becka and Matthew’s outings in the series. In contrast, Howth has some Irish history and lots of old Irish tales as well, which along with the Breathtaking coastline completes the picturesque views in the geographical environment of Dublin Bay.

3) Warrenpoint, County Down, Northern Ireland

This picturesque town in the north of Ireland contributes a lot to the film idiom and specializes in hosting cultural activities with Irish open-air carnivals and notable heritage sites like Narrow Water Castle, which equally plays a significant role in this particular series. Community events in such places, such as the seaside performance of “Blues on the Bay” and the enthralling beauty contest “Maiden of Mourne”, are seen to enhance the sense of community in the series. All such places combined with coastal scenery such as those around Omeath and Rostrevor, depict historical styles of buildings that serve to augment the viewers’ enjoyment of the narrative.

4) County Wicklow, Ireland

County Wicklow, famed for its herbaceous vegetation and hills, is a preferred destination for aerial view glides showcasing most of the famous landmarks found in the Irish islands. Not man-made features are dominant in Bad Sisters, ‘Vikings’ Meadow’ is a location used widely in the film, such sites include the Cathedral in Glendalough and the Wicklow mountains.

5) Additional Filming Sites

While most of Bad Sisters is filmed in Ireland, parts of London were used to capture interior shots, especially for scenes featuring John Paul’s character. Bibi’s residence was also filmed in Northern Ireland, incorporating the coastal town of Skerries, known for its tranquil beaches and distinctive charm.

With its mix of coastal vistas, lush countryside, and historical sites, Bad Sisters captures the soul of Ireland, immersing viewers in both its beauty and haunting suspense. Season 2 of the series will continue to explore these stunning locations, adding to the rich tapestry of the show’s setting as the Garvey sisters’ journey unfolds once more.
