The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Road to Natalia Speaks is currently airing on Investigation Discovery. The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Road to Natalia Speaks is a spin-off based on the original sleeper hit Investigation Discovery documentary series.

Natalia Grace, also known as Natalia Grace Barnett, is a Ukrainian-born American woman who is afflicted with a rare form of dwarfism known as spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita (SEDc). She was given up for adoption at the time of her birth by her biological mother Anna Volodymyrivna Gava.

According to the latest reports, Natalia's mother Anna Gava's last known place of residence was Mykolaiv, Ukraine, back in 2019. Unfortunately, there's not much information about her recent whereabouts.

In the previous episodes of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Anna Gava had expressed remorse over her decision to give her daughter up for adoption. During a past episode of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Anna was quoted as saying:

"Daughter, forgive me for what happened 16 years ago. Visit soon for me to see you. We are waiting for you. You have two sisters and two brothers."

Here's everything we know about the case.

The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Why did Anna Gava give away Natalia for adoption?

Anna Gava was born in Latvia on April 20, 1979. She grew up alongside her twin sister, Tatyana, and is currently a mother to two other boys and girls. She was tracked down as living in Ukraine and interviewed by the producers of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace back in 2022.

This was done as a follow-up to the allegations brought by Natalia's stepfather and stepmother claiming that she was not a pre-teen but a mature adult. During the interview, Anna revealed that she was forced to give her daughter away for adoption since she was unable to take care of her and provide for her. She stated:

"When I regained consciousness, after anesthesia, the next day the doctor came and said there is no sense to take her home. They said that she won't be able to walk at all and she will be of very short stature. I didn't initially want to leave her, but the doctors said there is nothing you could do for her. 'You are young,' they said, 'You are 24 years old. Don't ruin your life, you will have other children."

Anna further added that the doctors had prescribed an operation for Natalia that would cost her $100,000. At the time, she didn't have the necessary funds to cover the expenses.

Nevertheless, Anna has also expressed remorse over her decision to give up her daughter for adoption. She remarked:

"I would like her to be with me. I think about it all the time. Frankly, I would like her to be here with me.”

The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: What happened to Natalia after she was adopted by the Barnetts?

As per the recap of the case mentioned in The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Natalia was adopted by Michael and Kristine Barnett back in 2010. Her new adoptive parents initially thought her to be six years old.

However, they soon started alleging that she was a fully developed adult masquerading as a child. They left her by herself in an apartment in Indiana and relocated to Canada. Both Michael and Kristine Barnett were arrested on two counts of negligence, with the charges subsequently not being proved against them.
