900 Days Without Anabel is Netflix’s latest offering in the true-crime genre and deals with the abduction of 22 years old Anabel Segura by Candido Ortiz and Emilio Muñoz Guadix in 1993. After she was abducted, the whole of Spain was kept in suspense as the police tried to locate her and the kidnappers .
Directed and co-written by Mónica Palomero the series offers viewers access to records of police’s negotiation with Segura’s captors, which were previously never heard before.
Though the abductors had murdered Segura within a few hours of her kidnapping as she tried to escape, they had continued their charade for three years and kept trying to extort money from Segura’s family while promising them to return their daughter.
Candido Ortiz and Emilio Muñoz Guadix made around 15 phone calls to the Segura family between 1993 and 1995, demanding ransom. 900 Days Without Anabel delves into the depth of this horrible crime and tells the tragic story of Anabel Segura’s abduction and murder as well as her family’s plight.

Who was Anabel Segura as shown in 900 Days Without Anabel?
Anabel Segura Foles, the subject of the Netflix true-crime documentary 900 Days Without Anabel, was a young woman of 22 years, belonging from the affluent locality of La Moraleja, in the Madrid Community.
The eldest daughter of her family, Segura, had been a student of the private ICADE university, where she studied a four-year business course. Her father was a successful petrochemical businessman. He had set up his company in Germany where he met his wife and then moved to Spain.
Where is Anabel Segura now?
On April 12, 1993, Segura went out for her morning walk with her walkman, as she did every morning. Her family was not in town. Unfortunately, at the time Segura went out for a walk, her kidnappers, Emilio Muñoz Guadix and Candido ‘Candi’ Ortiz Aon also reached the neighborhood.
They decided on the La Moraleja area as they knew that the locality consisted mainly of rich families. At one point while jogging, Segura was held at knifepoint by the kidnapper duo and taken inside a white van. She struggled to escape, but was unsuccessful and lost part of her clothing and her walkman before she was forced inside the van.
A janitor at a local school who happened to be an eyewitness of this whole incident called the police immediately after Segura was abducted. However, because of not having his glasses on, he could not note down the number plate details.
After abducting her, the kidnappers took her to an abandoned factory in Numancia de la Sagra, Toledo and held her captive. However, as she tried to escape from there as well, Muñoz Guadix and Ortiz Aon strangled her to death and then buried the body.
However, even after they committed the murder, the kidnappers thought of going ahead with their original plan of getting the ransom from the Segura family. They gave the family multiple calls and demanded money to ensure the safe return of their daughter.
After three months of the kidnapping incident, Muñoz and Ortiz sent the family a tape recording in which Segura seemed to be crying and saying that she was okay and she wanted to be taken back home,
“I want to be home with you... I really want to see you all,” can be heard on the tape. “This is what you have to do to end this quickly. See you later, Daddy. Goodbye Mummy. Sister, I love you very much. Goodbye.”
However, despite their best efforts to extort money, Segura’s body was discovered at the warehouse on September 30, 1995, 900 days after she was kidnapped and that ruined the abductors' plans.
Moreover, when Segura’s recording was made live, it was discovered that the voice behind that tape was actually Garcia, wife of Muñoz Guadix. The tape led to a breakthrough in the case and the kidnappers were caught eventually.
