Where was Adolescence shot? Filming locations of Netflix's latest crime drama, explored

Adolescence, the new Netflix crime drama, premiered on March 13, 2025, and has been impressing the audience and critics alike. Created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, the series revolves around a teenager who is accused of murdering a classmate.

The four-part series was mostly filmed in a continuous shot, at Production Park, South Kirkby, West Yorkshire, though other locations in Yorkshire and London, England, were also used.

1) Production Park, South Kirkby

Most of the filming of Adolescence took place in Production Park, South Kirkby, West Yorkshire. A huge set helped in the show’s continuous shot technique. Joint CEO of Warp Films, one of the production companies of Adolescence, Mark Herbert, also stated how a studio helped in their filming technique. He said:

"The series posed a major challenge for us with the one-shot element so we needed a studio space that could match our technical needs but also provide a home for the crew and actors during the whole process."

He added:

"We loved working at Production Park and it was a great space to build our sets, and the day to day working atmosphere was fantastic, I will certainly film there again. And its mad it's in an old mining community not too far from where I grew up and just up the road from WARP Films HQ in Sheffield."

The set is popular among musical artists and has been previously used by Pink and Beyonce. The studio provided the gritty environment of the police station that we see in the show.

In addition to the studio, a few outer locations around South Kirkby were also used to depict the neighborhood in which the protagonists, the Millers, lived.

2) Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Sheffield, South Yorkshire, was another important location in Adolescence. Many of the scenes were filmed in a local school, in July 2024.

The school provided an urban setting that was different from the warm neighborhood where the Millers live. The institution has more of an isolated backdrop, which defines the themes of mystery and intrigue.

3) South Elmsall

The town of South Elmsall provided a contrast to the quaint backdrop of the South Kirkby neighborhood. Elmsall is a busy market town, and with its little shops and busy streets, provided a different atmosphere for the Netflix crime drama.

4) London

Apart from Yorkshire, the drama also included the urban setting of London, England. By using the residential backdrop of London, the show incorporated the societal difference. It also used different architectural styles, suburban locations, and dimly lit alleyways, which contrasted the small town settings from Yorkshire.

Adolscence has emerged a hit on Netflix due to its story, the performances, and mainly because of the different techniques used to film the show. In addition to using a one-shot technique, drones were also used in filming.

The crime drama introduced Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller, who is accused of murdering his classmate. Stephen Graham, who also co-wrote the show, plays the role of Eddie Miller, Jamie’s father. Other actors in the show included Erin Doherty, Ashley Walters, and Christine Tremarco.
