When One Piece season 1 first premiered back in August 2023, it instantly became a critical and commercial success that Netflix could be proud of. Taking a cue from the wholehearted audience admiration, One Piece was quickly renewed for a second season. The live-action adaptation of a popular Manga series has never generated so much fanfare among global audiences, often making it to the top ten in numerous countries.
Given the success of the debut season of One Piece, it wouldn't be an understatement to claim that fans all over the world are eagerly waiting with bated breath for the release of the second installment. According to an article from Tudum by Netflix, the showrunner Eiichiro Oda has officially confirmed that filming for the upcoming season is well underway, and the release date might be announced soon.
Recently an unexpected piece of information came from actor Vincent Regan, who plays the character of Vice Admiral Garp on One Piece. Speaking at the Vienna ComicCon towards the end of last November, he claimed that he has returned from the shooting of the second season and all his scenes have been filmed. He further added that the showrunners might be eyeing a potential Christmas 2025 release window. Here's everything we know.
Vincent Regan drops One Piece season 2 release information
Although there hasn't been any official announcement from either Eiichiro Oda or the producers of One Piece about the upcoming season, actor Vincent Regan was confident when he stated that his scenes were already in the can. While speaking in an interview with CerialKillerz, he added:
"I’ve come back from South Africa now. I’ve filmed season 2, everything my character is doing in season 2 is finished, and now they are finishing in about a month, I think they’ll finish filming. So I think the show will be ready for Netflix before Christmas next year. I hope. And I guess they’ll start filming season 3 pretty soon, and I think they are doing- I think it’s called the Albasta story arc. I think it’s going to take two seasons. What I’ve seen of the designs, drawings, and when I was there there was some really fun stuff being shot there at the moment."
It is worth noting that License Global had reported earlier this year that the show might be returning sometime in 2025. However, given the amount of production necessary to ensure quality standards, a 2025 release seems to be a bit ambitious.
This is particularly in keeping with several LinkedIn accounts belonging to the crew members of the show who have hinted that the show might return in early 2026. All of these will remain speculations, however, until Netflix comes forward with an official announcement.
Eiichiro Oda on One Piece season 2
Oda has already expressed his joy at being able to renew the series for a second season and has stated that the shooting is underway. In a letter addressed to Tudum, he stated that the vibe on set among the cast members was just perfect. He also added:
"My own casting selections were made from Japan over photos and videos, but seeing them all in person convinced me: They were absolutely the perfect choice!"
Apart from the familiar faces of the first season, several fan-favorite characters including Chopper are expected to feature on the second season. The show's co-showrunner Matt Owens stated:
"Oda told everyone we’ll be meeting Chopper in Season 2. The place that we were talking about all of Season 1, we’re in it now."
