Netflix's Monsters 2 might have upset the real-life figures over the dramatization of their personalities, but it has gathered public attention like never before. The Menendez brothers have been serving life sentences for almost three decades against committing parricide at their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989, and their story was covered in Ryan Murphy's anthology series.

Since their first trial, Lyle and Erik Menedez stand by the claim of being physically and mentally abused by their parents. This was also seen in Monsters 2, in which the younger brother Erik was explaining how his father ruined his life by se*ually abusing him since childhood.

Similarly, Lyle Menendez was also tortured and blackmailed over speaking out the truth. Following the alleged fear of losing their lives at the hands of their father José Menéndez, Lyle and Erik Menendez killed their parents, as shown in Monsters 2.

Years after requesting a retrial, Lyle and Erik Menendez will present themselves at the court for a new hearing on November 29, 2024. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has stated that they have received evidence that can prove the Menendez brothers are victims of molestation.

Soon after its release, Monsters 2 became highly controversial, with many criticizing the makers for highlighting an inappropriate relationship between the brothers, and less focus on the abuse they endured.

However, the anthology series has significantly contributed to shedding light on Lyle and Erik Menendez, and what led them to take the most terrifying path. Their attorney has been trying for a retrial, since their conviction, claiming that the Menendez brothers were molested by their parents.

The Menendez brothers have been widely discussed on the internet since the release of Monsters 2, and now they have even got evidence to prove the claim. According to the statement shared by Gascón:

"We have been given evidence. We have been given a photocopy of a letter that allegedly was sent by one of the brothers to another family member talking about him being the victim of molestation."

The evidence is a letter written by Erik Menendez to his cousin, which talks about José Menéndez abusing and causing him physical and mental pain. Not only this, but the Menendez brothers' attorney has also presented other evidence claiming that José Menéndez se*ually assaulted a former Menudo member.

The letter is expected to prove Lyle and Erik Menendez's long-standing claim against their parents. The jury might consider reducing their sentence if the letter and the former musician's claim validate the evidence.
