The Big Bang Theory's prequel spin-off series, Young Sheldon, proved just as popular as its predecessor and even gave way to its own spin-off, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage.
The show explores Sheldon Cooper's initial years in Texas, where he lived with his family. Emily Osment's Mandy is introduced in Season 5, Episode 11, where Georgie meets her for the first time in Meemaw's laundromat, and they start a relationship.
While Georgie and Mandy tackle many issues in their relationship, they find their way into each other's lives, and Osment's Mandy becomes a recurring character on the show.
More on Mandy's first appearance and character in Young Sheldon in our story.
Mandy was first introduced in Young Sheldon Season 5. Exploring her character from TBBT's spin-off series
Emily Osment's first physical debut in Young Sheldon was in Season 5. Many would not have remembered that her character was first mentioned in Season 1, Episode 12.
During a conversation between George Sr. and Georgeie, the latter places a bet with his father that he will not get married before 25. Here, Jim Parsons' voiceover reveals that Georgeie did, in fact, marry Mandy when he was 19, and he never paid George Sr. the bet money.
After this cheeky mention, Osment first appears as Mandy in Season 5, Episode 11, where Georgeie meets her for the first time in Meemaw's laundromat/gambling room. While both of them initially lied about their age, Mandy later confessed that she is 29 years old, while Goergie did not reveal that he was 17.
Georgie and Mandy instantly clicked in Young Sheldon, and he also took her on a date. Mandy revealed how she was fired from her job at the news station after she broke up with the station manager. Georgie eventually helped her out, and she moved into her studio.
After their first night together, Mandy discovers that she is pregnant, and she freaks out because Georgie is just 17 years old. While she has her doubts about Georgie and his dysfunctional family, she also sees the good in them.
After much resistance, they finally had a daughter and married at the City Hall in Season 7.
The Young Sheldon finale set up Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage
While every member of the Cooper family had their satisfactory end at the end of Young Sheldon, Georgie and Mandy's story was starting to begin.
The finale saw the unexpected death of the Cooper patriarch. Following his death, his wife, Mary, devoted her life to religion, and her young son, Sheldon, moved to California for college.
But Georgie and Mandy's stories were just starting, and thus, the spin-off series Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage was born.
While Osment was meant to be a guest star in Young Sheldon, her character and chemistry with Montana Jordan struck a chord with the audience, and she finally became a series regular and then went on to have a dedicated spin-off series about her life with Georgie and their daughter.
Talking about her breakthrough role as Mandy and the eventual spin-off show, Osment noted (via Tuscon.com):
“What I thought was going to be my first and only week on ‘Young Sheldon’ (turned into) a call the following week and the following week and now here I am today. My expectations were very normal. They just got blown out of the water by Chuck, who’s kept me employed for 14 years now.”
Talking about the spin-off show, which also got a second-season renewal, she added:
“I’m thinking about my performance and how to bring my best self to the stage, every day. “I think when you put two kids in 1994 in east Texas trying to raise a baby together, there’s going to be issues... There could be a second marriage between them, but I hope it’s my only marriage''
