NCIS premiered in September 2003 on CBS and since then there has been no looking back for the show. It has been one of the flagship shows of CBS and revolves around the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and its special agents.
Besides being the third longest-running US live-action show that airs on TV, the show has also led to six spinoffs which include NCIS: Sydney and the prequel show NCIS: Origins.
Now, the winter break of NCIS came on December 16, 2024, when NCIS Season 22, Episode 9 aired. Fans have since then been waiting for the next episodes and looking forward to the return of NCIS in 2025. Let us now explore the details of the same.
When is NCIS coming back in 2025?
As revealed by a Paramount Press Express press release, NCIS Season 22, Episode 10 will be coming back with its midseason premiere on January 27, 2025, at 9/8c on CBS. Fans will be in for a double treat as NCIS: Origins will also be returning on the same night with episode 11 of season 1 at 10/9c.
NCIS: Sydney is also returning in 2025 with season 2 premiering on January 31, 2025, during the 8:00-9:00 pm slot. NCIS: Sydney Season 1 finale aired in 2023.
What can be expected from the 2025 return of NCIS?
Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), one of the oldest characters in the NCIS franchise is expected to have an interesting storyline in the remaining episodes of this season and it will be interesting to see what his character will be doing since his much-desired promotion went to another character, Gabriel LaRoche (Seamus Dever).
Another interesting plot point would be the one involving Dr. Grace (Laura San Giacomo), who has returned to the show. Fans would remember her from multiple old episodes of NCIS as she played the role of a psychiatrist who has worked with both Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon).
More on the NCIS Universe
NCIS is one of those franchises that refuses to slow down no matter how much time has passed since they first aired. The original show is now more than two decades old and the fact that season 22 has returned with 22 episodes after season 21 had to conclude with 10 episodes only because of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, only speaks volumes about the popularity and demand of the show.
One of the spinoffs, NCIS: Origins also performed well since its premiere, which shows how fans are interested in characters related to the original stories and would love to see more of them.
NCIS: Sydney Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger and it is very likely that season 2 will be picking up from that point. There is also the possibility of Colonel Rankin’s reveal to be explored. The show has grown a solid fan base in Australia and it remains to be seen whether the second season will live up to the expectations of the fans.
NCIS can be streamed on Paramount+.
