Daredevil: Born Again is all set to make its much-anticipated premiere on March 4, 2025, on Disney+. However, ahead of the impending release of Daredevil: Born Again, speculation is rife among the fans of the show regarding the timeline discrepancy between the earlier iteration of the show and the upcoming debut season.

As per the trailer of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock has already gone into his retirement by the time the action of the show picks up. Answering the call of duty once again, Murdock brings himself out of retirement to fight against the likes of Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk.

As revealed by actor Wilson Bethel, who plays the character of Bullseye in the upcoming series, back in December 2024, Daredevil: Born Again will commence the timeline after a gap of five years after the conclusion of the original show in 2018.

This admission has given rise to several speculations, ranging from Daredevil's previous involvement in She Hulk: Attorney at Law and the popular theory that the upcoming Disney+ show might explore the Blip, the prolonged period following the aftermath of the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Here's everything that we know.

Daredevil: Born Again timeline speculations explored

The timeline discrepancy between the original show and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again leaves the door open to several possibilities that could be explored in the upcoming Disney+ show.

While recently speaking with SFX magazine, actor Charlie Cox revealed that the production of the upcoming show underwent a curious sea-change, thus aligning it more firmly with the Netflix original. He stated:

"There was a U-turn after the strike, where we were headed in one direction which was interesting and valid, Marvel looked at the episodes and knew it wasn't quite working. We shot a whole new pilot and they reorganized what we had filmed to make it feel more like the show we had shot all those years previously. Given what a Herculean task that was, it's very impressive what they achieved."

Dario Scardapane is the showrunner who was hired by Marvel after the latter decided to relieve the original Daredevil writers. While speaking about the approach of the new show while negotiating with its Netflix past, he had stated:

"At the very end of the Netflix show, Foggy, Karen and Matt had a dream written out on the back of a napkin. We start with that dream. It's not a dream that needs too much explanation; three good friends go into business together."

Similarly, Wilson Bethel had also commented that Daredevil: Born Again takes place five years after the end of the original show in 2018, and therefore that gives the narrative:

"Just that little extra bit of life in there, which I think is… as an actor, it gives you an opportunity to bring whatever your own journey has been in that time and they get sort of a little longer in the tooth."

Daredevil: Born Again will continue the narrative of Daredevil

The statements from Charlie Cox, the new showrunner Scardapane, and Belson have provided some insights into the timeline of the new show. It seems that the show will continue from Netflix's show timeline and continue the narrative of Daredevil.

While it is still unclear what Foggy and Karen accomplished between the time jumps, Marvel has progressively reintroduced Murdock and his nemesis, Wilson Fisk, through appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Echo, and other titles. Charlie Cox will also appear as Daredevil in the recently released animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which will be set in a timeframe separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
