As Yellowstone has reached its last leg in season 5, part 2, the sibling rivalry that sits at the heart of this Western drama has finally taken center stage. Following the revelation that Jamie and Sarah had orchestrated John Dutton’s death, it is no wonder that Beth (Kelly Reilly) is now absolutely hell-bent on revenge.
Some of the biggest shocks of Yellowstone have come through the relationship between Beth and Jamie, including the part when the viewers came to know that Jamie had sterilized Beth without her knowledge and consent when she was a teenager.
This was naturally an unforgivable act to Beth, and since her rage and anger at her sibling only grew, it finally reached its tipping point when John was murdered. Now that the show is gradually leading to its finale, let us explore what Beth might end up doing with Jamie by the time Yellowstone ends.
The following article contains spoilers.
What is Beth likely to do with Jamie in Yellowstone?
In the second episode of Yellowstone Season 5 the inevitable face-off finally happens between Beth and Jamie. Written and directed by Sheridan and Christina Voros. This episode follows Beth going to meet Jamie and confronting it.
The premiere of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 had established that John Dutton’s death was planned by Jamie and his girlfriend Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), who gave instructions to the killers to do it in a way that would make it appear like suicide.
However, Beth did not know this information, and yet in her gut, she knew that Jamie had to be the killer and that she needed him alone in a room to get that confirmation out of him.
When Beth finally meets Jamie, she slaps her three times across his face and physically removes Sarah from her way while getting out of his brother’s office. She also calls Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), her other brother, and now it is inevitable that these two siblings will wreak havoc on Jamie, who, since becoming Montana’s attorney general, left no stones unturned to make their lives particularly difficult.
Wes Bentley, the actor who plays Jamie, told The Hollywood Reporter that the final episodes of Yellowstone will deliver such a dramatic and intense showdown that the fans will be left at the edge of their seats, adding,
“Jamie is in a place where he’s dangerous because he’s unpredictable. He’s taken a big, wild swing, and if this doesn’t go well, he knows it’s probably over.”
While talking about the first confrontation scene between Jamie and Beth post John Dutton’s death, Christina Voros mentioned,
“Jamie has always been a survivor, and in that scene with Beth, yes he can’t lift his gaze up but also, even if he did lift his gaze up, what would come of it? I think in that moment, the only way out is through. And confronting her in that place of grief and rage is not going to work out well, regardless of how confrontational he chooses to be about it.”
Given the state of mind Beth is in following John’s death, it seems inevitable that she will take her revenge on Jamie. Their relationship was already riddled with secrets and backstabbing (mostly on Jamie’s part), and now when the time has come for the final showdown, Beth’s rage seems powerful enough to burn anything down that comes in her way of avenging the death of John Dutton.
Yellowstone can be streamed on Netflix.
