In The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 3, The Meaning of Dreams, which dropped on March 2, 2025, Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey) experiences haunting nightmares. Through her dreams, the viewers get a sneak peek into her psychological state and the upcoming challenges for the Ratcliff family.

Created by Mike White, the Emmy-winning, dark comedy drama anthology takes us to exotic islands in Thailand this season. The White Lotus Season 3 focuses on the wealthy Ratcliff family, which consists of Timothy and Victoria, and their three children, Saxon, Piper, and Lochlan. The Ratliffs are a dysfunctional family.

Initially, Victoria Ratliff's story was sidelined in the series. She is portrayed as a mother who is not a role model for her children, and is mostly on drugs. Meanwhile, even though Timothy seems an ideal parent, he is caught up in a fishy money laundering case. He receives a call that states:

"The FBI has obtained a warrant and they are at your office."

In The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 2, Victoria behaves quite rudely with Kate Bohr (Leslie Bibb), her old friend. Victoria refuses to entertain Kate, and Lochlan opposes her rude behavior toward her friend.

In Season 3 Episode 3, Victoria has a vivid dream that seems to indicate what the Ratliffs might face in the future. She is soon woken up by her husband, who seems to be nervously attending a call.

What was Victoria Ratliff's dream about in The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 3?

Victoria's dream began with her standing on the Koh Samui beach, Thailand. Covered in a duvet, she watches her son Lochlan. As she enjoys the tranquil surroundings of the ocean, a massive tsunami wave suddenly comes crashing down on her. The tsunami represents a warning — that an emotional or psychological storm is about to come her way. It also shows Victoria's mental health is in shambles as she is struggling to balance between daily chores and her addiction.

In the dream, Victoria also sees her son Lochlan, who is sitting on the beach with two hotel staff. Previously in the episode, Lochlan, the youngest of the Ratliff's siblings, had been discussing tsunamis and their catastrophic impact with the staff.

As the dream starts to unravel, Victoria spots something unusual in the Thailand beach setting. She sees her family home of North Carolina on the sandy beaches of Koh Samui. The house looks quite out of place and this scene seems significant for the upcoming storyline. The displacement of the house suggests disruption of normality, suggesting that danger looms large on the Ratliffs.

As the huge wave approaches Victoria, she does not move and calmly sits on the sand wrapped in the hotel's duvet. Her cold reaction to the giant wave speaks a lot about her mental health — about her inability to confront issues or be an ideal mother to her children. The dream sequence also highlights her helplessness and the dangers approaching the Ratliffs.

The tsunami in Victoria's dream is a symbol of the challenges and emotional turmoil that Victoria has been avoiding. The wave represents the chaotic series of events unfolding in Victoria's life, including her husband Timothy's shady money laundering activities and the frequent FBI calls that he has been getting. Even though Victoria is not aware of the entire scheme, she realizes something is wrong.

Victoria's refusal to move when the tsunami wave is about to crash on her suggests a deeper issue. Throughout the series, Victoria is depicted as someone who relies on her 'sleeping and anxiety pills.' It looks like she is trying to run away from her past, which would justify her rude behaviour with Kate Bohr in the previous episode. The wave sequence depicts Victoria's unwillingness to confront her addiction or any overwhelming issue in her life.

The waves destroying her family house represent a bout of instability about to hit the Ratliffs. In the upcoming episodes, Timothy's criminal activities would affect everyone in the family, shattering their bonds and destroying the Ratliffs economically, too.

The dream sequence seems like a warning, the beginning of a dark and turbulent journey for the family.
