The sixth episode of the first season of Invincible, 'You Look Kinda Dead,' introduces one of the show's darkest storylines and villains. In that episode, we are introduced to the villain, D.A. Sinclair, a mad scientist who abducts people, experiments on them, and turns them into zombie cyborgs. While Sinclair is arrested in that episode, Cecil takes an interest in his cyborgs, called "Reanimen."
One of Sinclair's victims in the sixth episode of Invincible Season 1 was Rick Sheridan. He was introduced as William's crush (and probably even more) in that episode. Mark, William, and Amber visit Rick's university to figure out if they should join it and William could spend some time with his crush. However, the trio is attacked on the first day by a zombified cyborg, who after looking at their reflection kills themselves.
What did Sinclair do to Rick in Invincible?
After the death of the previous cyborg, Sinclair abducts Rick when the latter is out for a run. When William is looking for Rick, even he is abducted and held hostage by Sinclair. William is shocked to find Rick, who has been experimented on and turned into a cyborg, but unlike the others, the latter isn't completely transformed. When William is in danger, he tries to get through to Rick and successfully manages to do so.
Sinclair is almost about to turn William into one of his Reanimen when Rick breaks out his programming and rescues the former. Finally, Mark stops Sinclair by breaking his jaw and hands over the mad scientist to Cecil, who is interested in using the Reanimen to capture Nolan as they made even Mark bleed. This sows the seed for Mark and Cecil's fallout in Invincible Season 3.
This entire ordeal with Sinclair affects Rick even in the second season.
What happens to Rick in Invincible Season 2?
We see Rick for the first time since season 1 in the sixth episode of the second season. He is physically healed from being the Reaniman, but some scars run deep. He is still traumatized from that experience with the mad scientist. This comes to a head in the very next episode when William finds Rick standing right on the edge of a building, considering taking the jump.
However, he is stopped by none other than Donald Ferguson, who reveals his cybernetic enhancements to Rick and William. Donald also reveals to them that he has died countless times, and chooses to wipe his own memories during every resurrection. Donald's talk is what convinces Rick to give life another shot and enjoy his relationship with William.
Three episodes in, we haven't seen Rick Sheridan yet in the third season. However, if the previous two seasons are to go by, maybe we will meet him in the sixth episode, or maybe even before or after the sixth episode, which will be streamed on Prime Video on February 27, 2025.
Who voices Rick?
Rick has been voiced by two different actors in his two appearances in this Prime Video animated series. The actor who gave his voice to Rick was Jonathan Groff, who played Smith in The Matrix Resurrections. In the second season, the character is voiced by Luke Macfarlane. This change in the cast was attributed to scheduling issues by creator Robert Kirkman.
The first four edpisodes of Invincible Season 3 are avivbale on Amazon Prime Video.
