However, Kelly's desire to take control of Arik's custody and a valuable trust fund set up for his medical care never died. Kelly reportedly wanted to exploit the trust fund and wanted to regain Arik's custody.
So, she planned out an attack on her ex-husband and allegedly offered $13,000 to 17-year-old Joseph Good to kill Li. As revealed in the People Magazine Investigates episode, Kelly first placed a GPS tracking device on Li's car to closely monitor his movements and then planned the attempted murder.

Soon after Kelley, Good, and Mendez's involvement in the attempted murder was identified, they were all arrested and charged. While Good was sentenced to over 12 years, his pal Mendez was ordered more than eight years in a juvenile detention center.
