Apple TV+'s highly acclaimed series, Severance, is finally coming with its Season 2, after a long wait of three years.

Severance stars Adam Scott and Britt Lower as the Lumon Industries employees who are conducting a medical procedure on their employees, which separates their 'work self' from their 'home self.'

The employees are severed into selves, the innie and the outie, and both have no knowledge and memories about their other halves. Season 1 saw Mark and Helly realizing the company's practice and trying to stop them.

But Season 1 ends with a twist when Britt Lower's Helly realizes that her outie Helena is Lumon Industries' CEO's daughter and next in line to inherit the company.

More on Britt Lower's remarks on playing two characters in Severance in our story.

Britt Lower opens up about her two characters in Severance

While everyone has their 'innie' life separated from their 'outie' one, Lower's character was revealed to be stuck at the crossfire between the both.

In the Severance Season 1 finale, it was revealed that her outie Helena is the daughter of Lumon Industries, CEO. The same company has conducted this experiment on their employees without their permission.

Helly is unaware that she is fighting to dismantle this system of Lumon Industries when her outie Helena is the one who wants to take her family's legacy further. With Season 2 approaching in a few days, the juxtaposition of both these characters is bound to overlap, and it is just time for Helena to realize the truth about her outie.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, actress Britt Lower opened up on her dual character in the show:

''I want this to kind of be a package that the audience gets to open for themselves and have a relationship to each side of the same person. But as John was alluding to, they sound like different music in my head. I really have empathy for both of their situations.''

She added:

''These are the same person, but both are trapped by the same company. Helena is obviously trapped in a really different way. She's stuck within this family that she didn't choose. So it really becomes about kind of this inner critic, this inner child ego versus id nature, nurture opposite sides of the coin. I'll stop my metaphors now.''

What do Lower's two characters mean in Severance?

Throughout Severance Season 1, we saw Scott's Mark and Lower's Helly try to dismantle the company from within. While the Lumon employees getting severed in two selves is not confined to only Helly, her case becomes special because of her outie's identity, i.e., the daughter of the Lumon CEO, which juxtaposes her with Helena.

While her two identities are different, they reside in the same body and thus cannot conflict. But that is the predicament: Lower's characters will find themselves in Severance Season 2.

While her innie Helly will try to dismantle and stop the Lumon experiment, her outie Helena will try to take her family's legacy forward and expand the company's operations.

What will be Helly's next step after she realizes that her outie Helena is the next in line to inherit Lumon Industries? Will she still try to stop this madness or become one of them? Tune into Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025 to find out.
