Based on a True Story, Season 2 premiered on November 21, 2024, exclusively on Peacock. All eight 30-minute episodes were released on the same day, offering viewers a complete binge experience.

Season 2 starts 3 months after the events of Season 1. Ava, played by Kaley Cuoco, and Nathan, played by Chris Messina, are now new parents. They attempt to lead a simple and quieter life. Ava returns to her real estate career, while Nathan focuses on his tennis training business. However, their lives are disrupted when a new series of murders emerges, drawing them back into the world of true crime.

Ava discovers the identity of a real serial killer, who goes by the name Matt Pierce and is popularly known as "Westside Ripper." Instead of going to the police, she has a wild idea, and they end up asking the criminal to be part of a true crime podcast, or else they will expose him. The series has continued to come up with such unique twists, however, according to reports, the show is ending after its season 2.

The official synopsis of the show on IMDB reads,

"A realtor, a former tennis star, and a plumber seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America's obsession with true crime."

Based on a True Story, despite having a decent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has been cancelled after season 2. Based on a True Story, season 1 scored 76%, and Season 2 scored 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show delved deep into the obsession of this married couple with true crime stories, and they ended up finding out about a crime that their plumber, Matt, committed in the very first episode. This led to a chain of events and the unfolding of some of the most intriguing secrets.They blackmail Matt into doing a crime podcast with them.

The showrunner and executive producer Annie Weisman appreciated the "exceptional performances" of Kaley and Chris, according to a report by NBC.

In season 2, Ava's sister Tory is engaged to Matt and there are more murders taking place in town. But while Ava and Nathan try to build their relationship with Matt, they doubt he is the one behind the killings. By the end of Based on a True Story season 2, he frames Nathan for his crimes, setting up a major cliffhanger.

Season 2 also introduces Melissa Fumero, Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame, in a new role, adding fresh dynamics to the storyline.
