Showtime's Dexter: Resurrection, an upcoming spin-off to Dexter, has added Golden Globe award-winning actress Uma Thurman to its cast list.
Dexter, which premiered in 2006, is a hit Showtime series that followed Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst in the Miami Metro Police Department by day and a vigilante killer by night.
The success of the original series has led the makers to follow Dexter's lore with many spin-off shows. Dexter: New Blood, a sequel series was released in 2021, and it followed the protagonist after the events of the original show. Michael C. Hall reprised his role as Dexter.
After the success of Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel show, Dexter: Resurrection, was announced, which will be released in the summer of 2025. According to reports, production has already begun. And latest news suggests that Thurman has joined the cast as Charley, the head of security to a billionaire.
More on Uma Thuran's character in Dexter: Resurrection in our story.
Uma Thurman will play the role of Charley in Dexter: Resurrection
Reports from Deadline suggest that American actress Uma Thurman has joined the cast of Dexter: Ressurection as Charley, the head of security to billionaire Leon Prater. She was a former Special Ops officer, which suggests she has training in physical combat, which could prove a threat to Dexter.
Thurman's casting as head of security could mean her boss, i.e., Prater, might be Dexter's new target in the show, which would mean a possible showdown between the characters. Like many memorable showdowns from the original series, Charley would also be one of the contenders who would want to expose Dexter's identity to the world.
Thurman, being a big name in the industry, increases the stakes for Dexter, and it would be interesting to see if she will get the upper hand or if Dexter will win once again in Dexter: Resurrection.
Thurman is a Golden Globe-winning actress for her performance in the HBO movie Hysterical Blindness. She was also nominated for an Emmy award in the Outstanding Guest Actress category in a Drama Series for her role in the NBC musical Smash.
She is best known for her work on Les Misérables, and her work in Pulp Fiction won her nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Is Dexter: Resurrection a sequel to Dexter?
Dexter: Resurrection is a sequel to the original series Dexter and Dexter: New Blood, where the latter saw its protagonist, Dexter Morgan, on the verge of death after his son shot him.
The last scene of New Blood shows Dexter bleeding out in the snow, but Original Sin confirmed that the doctors were able to revive his heart, and he lived. Dexter: Resurrection will be the next chapter in the killer's life.
In addition to Hall, his fellow actors David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott will also reprise their respective roles as Detective Angel Batista, Harry Morgan, and Harrison Morgan.
A Showtime Studios production, Clyde Phillips will serve as the showrunner, and Monica Raymund and Marcos Siega will direct the series.
