Exploring Wally Clark's character in School Spirits Season 1

In School Spirits, Wally Clark is a ghost from the 1980s who was a star football player in his high school located in Split River and an active part of the school's afterlife club, where all other spirits from his school are trapped.

When Maddie dies and becomes a spirit in the afterlife club, Wally helps her navigate this new life. He is one of the first ghosts who Maddie interacts with, and she tells him that she has no recollection of how she died.

As School Spirits Season 1 progressed, Wally started developing feelings for Maddy, and he finally opened up about his past and how he died.

While watching a football game in their school, he tells Maddie that he died during the homecoming match of his senior year. While running on the field, he was tackled, leading to his neck snapping, and he died on the field itself.

He also shared that he did not want to play football but joined because his mother wanted him to. He sees his mother in the audience in every match, and she saves a seat for him. Even in the afterlife, Wally still wears his football jersey, which symbolizes how he could never give up his mother's dream.

But, at the end of School Spirits Season 1, Maddie motivates him to do what he wants, and he finally removes the football jersey and becomes free of his mother's dreams.

Manheim will reprise his role in School Spirits Season 2. In the Season 1 finale, he was free of the weight of his mother's dream, which means that he would have a new individuality in Season 2.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Milo Manheim opened up about his character during the Season 1 premiere:

''He [Wally]nkind of plays into the 80s jock stereotype, but as you get to know him more, I think he becomes more funny, and he becomes more human. You get to deep dive into his personal life.''

He added:

''You do get to explore a little bit of Wally's life before he crossed over to the afterlife. You do figure out a lot about him, and you also get to see him make his connection deeper with Maddie in the afterlife. They connect on things and bond on things. I think you're definitely going to be able to see that other side of him as the show continues.''
