The Day of the Jackal has received positive reviews from critics and viewers alike, and the series, streaming on Peacock, has been nominated at the two Golden Globe Awards in the categories of Best Actor and Best Television Series - Drama.
The show is based on Frederick Forsyth's novel of the same name, and follows a ruthless and mysterious assassin known as the Jackal and the female Intelligence agent sent to catch him.
English actor Charles Dance plays the role of Timothy Winthrop, a powerful financier who becomes the Jackal's new employer. Winthrop is closely connected with the cream of London's political and social landscape and plays a pivotal role in The Day of the Jackal.
Timothy Winthrop hires the Jackal to take out Ulle Dag Charles, a tech guru who is about to launch a revolutionary software named River, which could expose dark money worldwide. The idea is in conflict with Winthrop's interests.
Winthrop's character adds a layer to London's socio-politics and fuses with the Jackal's dangerous and mysterious world as an assassin. While the Jackal does not have a wife or a personal life in Forsyth's novel, he is given a personal life in the series in a bid to add more depth to the character.
The show debuted on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK on November 7, 2024 and is available on Peacock in the US.

Charles Dance is an English actor known to play strong, authoritarian and often villainous characters in films and television. Timothy Winthrop, his character in The Day of the Jackal, is the latest of such roles.
Dance started his acting career in 1974 but it was not until 1981 that he made his feature film debut, in the Roger Moore-starrer James Bond hit, For Your Eyes Only. Since then, Dance has worked in many television series and films.
His film credits include Michael Collins (1996), Gosford Park (2001), The Imitation Game (2014), Mank (2020), Dracula Untold (2014), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).
Dance left his mark on television, too, with roles in projects such as The Jewel in the Crown, Bleak House, The Crown, and Game of Thrones.
