Jude Law's performance as Jod Nawood in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has got everyone talking. Fans are curious about whether Jod is a Jedi, or maybe just someone sensitive to the Force, or if he's a whole new entity. Episode 5 dropped some hints that might connect him to the Jedi Order, but it's still leaving us with more questions than answers.
In a heartwarming moment, Jod Na Nawood consoles a little kid named Wim, and he does it in a way that sounds like something a Jedi would say. He brings up the idea of attachment, which is something the Jedi talk about a lot, and even uses a line that Qui-Gon Jinn said in The Phantom Menace:
“Your focus determines your reality.”
Even though Jod gives a nod to Jedi beliefs, his take on it looks a bit off. It seems like he's more into looking out for himself. Plus, the way he uses the Force is kind of weird. Sometimes he does stuff that doesn't seem very Jedi-like at all.
Jod Na Nawood’s misinterpretation of Jedi teachings
One of the interesting things about Jod’s character is how he seems to know a lot about what the Jedi believe in, but he doesn’t always get it right. In the fifth episode, he tells Wim something that’s a famous Jedi idea – not getting too attached. But Jod Na Nawood's take on it is different from what the Jedi are about.
Instead of explaining it like the Jedi do, where it’s about not getting possessive so you don’t end up suffering, Jod makes it sound like you should just keep to yourself to stay safe. It’s like he only heard part of the story or something. It’s like another character we know from Obi-Wan Kenobi, Haja Estree, who tries to be a Jedi but doesn’t quite get it.
And when Jod Na Nawood says, “Your focus determines your reality,” it’s like he’s twisting a Jedi saying to make it about getting what you want, rather than finding peace within yourself. It shows that even though he knows some Jedi tricks, he’s not living it like the real-deal Jedi do.
Jod Na Nawood's inconsistent use of the Force is a questionable Jedi connection
Jod Na Nawood's random use of the Force has got people guessing who he even is. At the start of the series, he shows that he's got some basic Force tricks up his sleeve, like floating keys to save himself and the kids from being stuck. But, his skills aren't as sharp or strong as what you'd expect from a full-fledged Jedi.
In Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Episode 5, Jod faces off with a droid, SM-33, that's after the kids. Instead of using his Jedi mojo, he goes old school and takes the droid out manually. It's not exactly what you'd think a Jedi would do, right? This weird mix of sometimes being a Force-whiz and other times just a regular guy has got fans talking.
They're guessing that maybe Jod Na Nawood's got a bit of a Force slumber going on, or that his training got cut short. And they're pointing to Order 66 as the time when that might have happened.
Is Jod Na Nawood a survivor of Order 66?
The idea that Jod Na Wood is a youngling who made it through Order 66 fits well with what we know about his character. Growing up as a Jedi, his schooling would've gotten the short end of the stick when that terrible thing happened, leaving him with just a few Jedi tricks up his sleeve.
This sad start in life makes sense for why he's got such a patchy grasp of the Jedi way and often tries to keep himself safe on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. He's got a soft spot for the little ones, sure, but he'll put his neck first most of the time.
Jod Na Nawood's story as someone who lived through the darkest days of the galaxy explains why he's so jumpy and keen on staying alive.
He's got battle scars from seeing all the bad things that went down with Order 66. This gives us a new look at Jedi survivors, which is different from characters like Kanan Jarrus and Grogu who stuck closer to the Jedi teachings.
