Amazon Prime Video's The Wheel of Time Season 3 continues to expand on Robert Jordan's fantastical lore, and the recent episode proves that.

Episode 4 introduced two key elements from Jordan's books: the ancient city of Rhuidean and the Avendesora.

After Rand al'Thor believes everyone around him doubts if he is the Dragon Reborn, he decides to undertake a trial in the city of Rhuidean and prove himself.

Before the trial, Rand and Moiraine came across the Avendesora tree, meaning 'the tree of life', an important part of the show's universe. The tree is a part of the Chora species, sacred for the Aeil people during the Age of Legends. They were designed to give peace and rest to people who lay under its branches, but eventually, the species became endangered during the Breaking.

More on Avendesora in The Wheel of Time Season 3 in our story.

Explaining Avendesorsa's history and its connection to Rand and Moiraine in The Wheel of Time Season 3

Avendesora, a sacred Chora tree for the Aeil population, holds an important link between Rand and Moiraine and shows how the two characters are deeply connected. While the distance between them increases in The Wheel of Time Season 3, the latest episode saw both undertaking their journeys in the ancient city of Rhuidean.

Before going their separate ways, they come across the Avendesora tree, and Moiraine gives a fascinating history lesson, revealing her and Rand's ancient ties.

Once abundant in nature, the sacred tree ceased to exist during the Breaking and became extinct. However, the Aeil people managed to save some saplings to preserve the species and gifted one to the Cairhein kingdom (introduced in Season 2), in return for water given by them during the Breaking.

The sapling, known as Avendoraldera, was taken by the Cairhein people and planted with the utmost care, and it flourished until Moiraine's uncle, King Laman Damodred, came to power. In his quest to make a unique throne for himself, he cut the tree's branches off, starting a bloody war between the Aeils and the Cairhein.

The Aeil clan was enraged by the dishonor brought to Avendesora and waged a war led by Rand's father, Janduin. The books reveal that the battle finally concluded on Dragonmount, Rand's birthplace, directly linking Avendesora to his birth and his intertwined past with Moiraine.

Rand has visions about Avendesora's link to the Aeil culture in The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 4

While Moiraine reveals this key detail about Rand and her shared history with the Avendesora tree, the chora tree holds more significance in the Aeil culture, which was gradually revealed in The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 4 through Rand's visions.

During one of his visions, we learn that one of his ancestors, Jonai, was tasked with transporting one of the saplings to a safe place after they ceased to exist during the Breaking. During Jonai's journey, an Aes Sedai gave him a female sa'angreal, Sakarnen, the most powerful among her clan, to keep safe inside the sapling.

Another vision reveals how the Aes Sedai later retrieved Sakarnene and established the glass columns, which were further used by the Aeil clan used these columns to choose their chiefs and Wise Ones, and they were even used in The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 4 during Rand's trial.

Avendesora's deep-rooted history to Rand-Moiraine and the Aeil culture proves that the TV show is committed to bringing all aspects of Joradn's books to life, and it would be interesting to see what other elements the fans get to see in the upcoming episodes.
