What If...? Season 3 is going strong, heading towards a memorable finale. The show's sixth episode aired on December 27, 2024, and was headlined by Shang-Chi and Hawkeye, also known as Kate Bishop. Throughout episode 6 of season 3, Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop partnered up in the Wild West of 1872 across a rugged and relentless landscape.

As Shang-Chi delved deeper into the disappearance of his sister Xialing, Kate Bishop strove to find the one who was responsible for harming her family and her ranch. It eventually turned out that the culprit in both instances was a mysterious entity, also known as The Hood.

The latest episode of What If...? presented a unique rendition of the old American West as a lawless and untamed land that somehow has marvelous technology going on in its favor. Such technology allows a ghost train to cruise through a desert without tracks! Coupled with Jun-Fan, Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop brave several challenges to finally reach the house of The Hood.

Nevertheless, the quest quickly leads to a reversal when the true identity of The Hood is revealed, ending in a tragic reconciliation with Shang-Chi. Here's everything that we know.

What happened on the latest episode of What If...? season 3?

The latest episode of What If...? Season 3 was titled What If...1872? and began with a nostalgic legend that harkened back to the traditions of the Wild West. John Walker and his posse are seen firing bullets into a church bell, making the bell's rings resound through the desert. It is believed that Shang-Chi, also known as the Ten Rings, will be summoned on the count of ten such bell rings.

Shang-Chi eventually arrives along with Kate Bishop's Hawkeye. Following a quick showdown that results in the death of John Walker's posse, Shang-Chi interrogates him about The Hood, a mysterious entity known to invade construction sites and kidnap Chinese immigrants. After much persuasion, Walker gives up the location of Point Pegasus, adding that The Hood is on the lookout for Shang-Chi.

The Watcher intervenes in the meanwhile to provide some context. Xialing was Shang-Chi's sister who escaped her father's brutality in China in the 1860s and immigrated to America before her disappearance. Upon reaching Point Pegasus, Shang-Chi and Bishop find it to be deserted in the wake of the destruction caused by The Hood. They team up with the sole survivor, Jun-Fan.

Their search takes the three of them through the valley and onto a strange train that runs through the desert without any tracks! Inside the train are ammunition and the hypnotized missing Chinese workers. After their altercation with Sonny Burch, the trio finally arrives at The Hood's abode, which is lit by torches.

The Hood's true identity is revealed in a shocking twist

The Hood tries a lot to persuade Shang-Chi to join him, but the latter would have none of it. There's no way left but for them to battle it out. At first, The Hood seems slippery and isn't susceptible to Shang-Chi's blows.

However, once Shang-Chi's blow lands at the right place, the greatest twist of What If...? Season 3 episode 6 comes to pass. The Hood is Xialing, after all! It is then revealed that Xialing had killed The Hood herself and assumed his powers. Kate Bishop ultimately shoots Xialing dead as Shang-Chi reconciles with his dying sister.
