The What If...? series has kept people hooked on their screen as it delves into the different realities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Every episode has its version of the familiar characters and stories, with infinite possibilities for the multiverse.

With The Watcher, Uatu, as the cosmic observer who witnesses all these occurrences, the final episode of the series is called 'What If...? What If?' where Uatu does something that has not been done before to change the course of events in the multiverse.

He saves multiple versions from eradication by the evil entity, The Eminence, an evil force that threatened their existence in this climactic end. This marks an important point in Uatu's mission when he shifts roles from a passive observer to an active protector of these alternate heroes.

This article will detail the saved variants of The Watcher, including how and when they were rescued. This will provide a detailed view of this pivotal moment in the series.

Variants saved by The Watcher in What If...?

1) Captain Carter (Peggy Carter)

Captain Carter plays a vital role in the finale. In an action-packed fight against The Eminence, she dies to save her friends and their variants. As The Eminence tries to rub out all the different manifestations of the heroes from space, Peggy employs her recently acquired powers to move her team to the universe created by Strange Supreme, which is also safe from the influence of The Eminence. As such, it is much like Tony Stark's gesture in Avengers: Endgame.

2) Kahhori

Kahhori, a variant of Storm who wields Mjolnir is part of Captain Carter's team. She is saved from the battle with The Eminence along with Peggy. Post-Peggy's sacrificial act, Kahhori, and others take refuge in Strange Supreme's universe.

3) Byrdie (Byrdie the Duck)

Byrdie is Howard the Duck and Darcy Lewis's daughter. She is the latest on the list of Captain Carter's team. She was saved by Kahhori when Peggy teleported them to a safe distance.

4) Storm

Storm is another variation of the same character that Captain Carter has with her. Similar to Kahhori and Byrdie, she is also saved by Peggy when she sacrifices herself in this scene.

5) Infinity Ultron

Infinity Ultron starts as an antagonist but eventually saves the day by breaking in on the fight between The Eminence. It allows Captain Carter and The Watcher to escape before being destroyed.

6) Reed Richards Variant

One of the variants saved is Reed Richards. He may not be featured in the finale but being included shows the larger impact of Uatu's efforts.

7) Steve Rogers Variant

Steve Rogers is also on the list of variants saved by The Watcher. Just like Reed Richards, Steve does not appear directly but it means Uatu is keen on saving heroes in various universes.

8) Madisynn Variant

Another character who was saved by Uatu. No further information is provided on what she did or how she helped in this episode.

Additional variants introduced in What If...?

Besides those participating in the finale of What If...? season 3, several more variants are introduced in the final scenes of the series:

  1. Six-Armed Spider-Man
  2. Cyborg Rocket Raccoon
  3. Punisher Ironheart
  4. Samurai Ghost Rider
  5. Thor Hulk
  6. Gamora in a Wedding Dress
  7. Blade as Moon Knight
  8. Weapon X Thanos
  9. Kingo with an Iron Man Suit
  10. Ms. Marvel/Wasp Mash-Up
  11. Maestro Hulk as Sorcerer Supreme
  12. Scarlet Witch/Howard the Duck Mash-Up
  13. Hawkeye as a Dragon Warrior
  14. Jubilee as Silver Surfer
  15. Skrull Captain America with Wakandan Shields
  16. Sersi in a Ballgown with Dane Whitman
  17. Deadpool with an Insane Amount of Guns
  18. Young Hela with Mjolnir
  19. Shang-Chi as Star-Lord
  20. Sheriff Loki
  21. Infinity Witch
  22. Nova Centurion Carol Danvers
  23. Doctor Strange Variant

These variants appear during Uatu's closing narration in What If...? and represent infinite possibilities within MCU's multiverse.

It would be the finale of What If...? that represents a major turning point both for The Watcher himself and the multiverse at large. Saving a bunch of variants from destruction goes against his oath, and in doing so, makes Uatu a protector, not just an observer, thereby adding depth to the storyline of What If...? and opening up possibilities of storylines for future exploration in the MCU multiverse.
