Hold tight, Euphoria fans—Rue's story isn't over yet!

With rumors surrounding Euphoria Season 3, HBO has finally shared an update on the next chapter. Whispers about the series' cancellation began soon after it was confirmed that Zendaya had joined Christopher Nolan's next big movie.

Reports suggest that Nolan's film will be a follow-up to his 2023 summer blockbuster Oppenheimer, and will start production in 2025. Interestingly, Euphoria's production is also set in 2025, resulting in cancellation rumors as many believe Zendaya might abandon the show.

However, a representative of HBO has shut down the rumors in an update given to The Independent. The representative confirmed:

"Euphoria is going in to production in 2025. Nothing has changed"

The series debuted on HBO in 2019 and took less time to become one of the hit high school dramas addressing issues related to drug use, sexuality, and trauma. Not only this, Euphoria also paved the way for its cast members and even earned two Primetime Emmy Awards for Zendaya.

The upcoming season faced notable delays due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes and the passing of actor Angus Cloud, but now, filming is scheduled to begin in January 2025. Read below to know more about the third chapter on HBO.

The HBO series is moving beyond the high school setting as its creator Sam Levinson confirmed that Euphoria Season 3 will take place five years after the events of the previous chapter. The story was also hinted at by HBO's executive Casey Bloys in a July interview with Variety magazine. When asked about the Season 3 update, she stated:

"One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn’t want to have it in high school anymore..."

The high school narrative has been the core of the first two seasons, but now the characters have grown up. The creator also mentioned a dark and mysterious theme for the upcoming season that will continue its focus on the key figures including Zendaya's Rue Bennett.

In Season 3, Rue will navigate challenges while staying true to her principles and belief in the corrupt and harsh world. As seen in the previous seasons, Zendaya's character fell victim to drug addiction and relationship issues.

But, now that the high school is over, fans can expect significant character developments in the narrative. The time jump will offer a transition from adolescence to adulthood.

Another key update fans must be curious about is the cast of Season 3 amid the time jump. Bloys also confirmed that the "same core cast" is returning for the next chapter as well, clarifying that the story hasn't affected the presence of the characters.

The key cast members include Zendaya (Dune), Jacob Elordi (Priscilla), Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You), and Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo). The actors are set to dive into their iconic characters, and Sweeney seems to be the most excited one.

While talking about Season 3 with People Magazine, Sweeney expressed her excitement to return as Cassie Howard. The actress said:

"I'm very excited to jump back into Cassie... I love crazy Cassie, so the crazier, the better for me."

Sweeney hopes for the same vibe from Cassie in Euphoria Season 3, and it would be intriguing to see how she has developed in five years. In the previous seasons, Cassie was seen as a people pleaser, thanks to her father who abandoned her at an early age and left her with the trauma of being abandoned.

The show highlights the issues faced by high schoolers and how they leave a lasting impact on their personalities. However, a few years have passed and fans can expect slight changes in each character.
