Following the conclusion of Criminal Minds on CBS in 2020, the hit crime drama returned with another season on Paramount+ due to fans’ demand. Titled Criminal Minds: Evolution, the revival marks the return of most of the main cast members, who continue to investigate some thrilling cases.
Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1 finale was aired on February 9, 2023, and ended with a number of lingering questions. However, what generated more intrigue was a tribute paid to Harry Bring before the credits.
With the message, the show remembered Harry Bring, one of its longtime executive producers. Harry died in 2021 after battling cancer for a long time, and series creators decided to honor him for his contribution to the show with a special tribute.
The Harry Bring tribute at the end of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1
At the end of the first season’s finale, Dead End, as the screen went black, a message was displayed that read, “In Loving Memory of Harry Bring.” Harry Bring, also credited as Harry V. Bring, was an executive producer of the show, who contributed to 186 episodes of Criminal Minds between 2011 and 2020.
Harry passed away on February 16, 2021, at the age of 77, after a long battle with cancer. Though he did not get to work on Evolution, the series creators still wanted to honor and remember him for his work on the original series.
Harry’s son, Brad Bring, had confirmed his death with a post on Facebook in February 2021. He wrote:
“Today we lost a legend at 77 year young. Harry Bring succumbed to a life full of laughter and hard work, dedication to family and friends and the love he had for Rhonda Leeds-Bring. He fought cancer for years and kicked it’s a**.”
At the time, some Criminal Minds actors also took to social media to mourn the producer’s death. Joe Mantegna, who stars as David Rossi, and Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Dr. Spencer Reid, took to Twitter (now X) to pay their respects to the departed soul.
Harry Bring worked on several television projects
Though Criminal Minds remains Harry Bring’s most recognized project, he worked on several other shows and films as well. Born on August 31, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of actress and singer Frances Hunt, and musician Louis Henry Bring.
Harry entered the entertainment industry in the 1980s and began working as a second assistant director. Some of his earlier works include the Michael Keaton starrer 1983 film, Mr. Mom, the Dave Thomas starrer comedy, Strange Brew, and the Kurt Russell starer sports comedy-drama, The Best of Times.
He then ventured into television and served as an assistant director on shows like ABC’s Max Headroom, CBS’ Northern Exposure, Lifetime’s Army Wives, and Fox’s Melrose Place. In 2000, he began working on Fox’s The X-Files. Harry produced 46 episodes of the sci-fi drama series until 2002.
Some of his other credits include the shows The Lyon's Den, Head Cases, and Chaos. Harry joined Criminal Minds in its seventh season in 2011, and remained associated with the show till its conclusion on CBS in 2020.
In his Facebook post, Brad Bring revealed that Harry loved working on different projects with various crews. He wrote:
“He loved work and if you asked him what his favorite crew was, it was always the one we was working with right now.”
